While waiting for my harbour walls to dry I dismantled my dapol diesel crane and mixed it up with the remains of my girlfriends ufo fibre optic lamp,it may need slowing down slightly....

...can anyone advise me about timer relays? If it has intermittant power at 3 or 4 second bursts it will change direction automatically, thanks in advance...Frame in padstow.

QUOTE (frame69 @ 31 Jan 2009, 19:23) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Sorry guys,not sure what a twin set is.

QUOTE (Brian Considine @ 31 Jan 2009, 20:08) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>AFAIK "twin set" is a description of ladies attire comprising of a skirt & matching jacket - the sort of thing worn by Mrs Bucket in the sitcom.

SWMBO informs me that a twin set is actually two knitted garments. The first is something akin to a knitted version of a short sleeve T shirt and the second part, worn over the first, is a matching long sleeve version of the same style, pattern and design as the first part, but usually had a button up front (cardigan to you and me). As they were knitted in identical wool and pattern they were called twin sets.

You can store that in your useless information file - like what I have.

I know what you mean my "spare room" is fast being taken over by model related things. I really need to convince SWMBO that we can lose the wardrobe which will give me an extra 4 feet of base board. But where would I store all my wagons, scaledale buildings modeling materials etc!

My betterhalf is convinced we need the "spareroom" for guests when they occasionally visit. I say stick em on the blow up bed in the lounge!) Id build storage under baseboards if the baseboards where going to be at least semi-permanant, but again, SWMBO wants ther "spare room" to be railway free when guests stay.
Bummer

Sorry mate I would have to put my foot down there,we do get lots of guests but they have to put up with our mess. They either stay with us for nothing or pay £700/£800 for a week in a hotel in town.

You dont know the half of it Mate! When I had the scalextric it was on a 8' by 4' base board that hinged down from the wall when in use and she barely put up with that!

"Christ",you should bring her down here and see my house, this place is designed for my partner and me to enjoy ourselves and have fun,we both like making stuff,so do the children. I do have a good tidy up about once a month but our busy time is here so were at work lots now. My layout is in our bedroom,18 by 7 1/2 foot, plus all the other c**p that comes with this hobby. My o gauge is scattered all round the house but is slowly creeping towards the garden
Our house isnt a conventional house btw.
Regards,Andy.

My wife also enjoys model making as well as other crafts like scrap booking and knitting. But she also has to tidy stuff away afterwards. I guess the real problem is that we use the other spare room as an office as we both work from home. I tend to use my office desk for model making etc but as its also used for work the mess gets a bit much. Im not the most organised of people either!!!!
We, like most people I suppose have far too much "stuff" which threatens to take over at times. Ive two garages and a shed full of gear and a trailer tent, bikes etc. Im all for having a clear out but most of the gear is work related and therefor not scrappable or boot fairable.

Hi Steve

Sod the guests make the room for the model railway
. It seems a great shame not to utilise the room because of the "occasional" visit from guests!!

Kind regards

I think it's complicated...I remember something from school about computers and macros but I have a bad memory.
Maybe you could mess about with one of those timers you plug into your sockets when you go on holiday and want your lights to come on.
Having said that...It might be easy.

Many easy(ish) ways to do this- the most common way is relay's activated by reed switches, track breaks or more advance methods such as IR.

Richards "Masterswitches" are very good for this & contain many circuit diagrams - see his website for further details.

They are available from Bromsgrove or (shameless plug) - us, as in Euroscale.
