Congratulations to George Smith (Dapol's Managing Director) who has been awarded Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the Queen's recent Birthday Honours List for services to the community in
Llangollen, Denbighshire.
George has spent over 25 years within and supporting the Llangollen community and has held many positions ranging from Chairman of the Llangollen Round Table and National Presidential Secretary of the Round Table Association, through to local councillor and, in 1995, Town Mayor. He was Chair of the Llangollen Tourism Association at the time of the 2001 Foot & Mouth outbreak as well as fronting the very successful Llangollen Eurozone scheme the following year which saw world-wide media attention being focused on the town. He was also Captain of the Chirk Golf Club and played an important role in commencing a successful campaign encouraging Junior Golf in Denbighshire.
Prior to joining Dapol he was an acknowledged entrepreneur, opening and owning businesses throughout Wales and north-west of England.<br
During his time at Dapol he has led the growth and diversification of the whole business, as well as supporting local employment. This culminated with the business winning Welsh Tourist Business in 1998 and, of course, the prestigious UK Small Business of the Year in 2003.
