Germany to China

A new rail freight service between Germany and China, that would be twice as quick as sea travel, has been backed by six countries, Chinese media says.

The China Daily state newspaper says China, Mongolia, Russia, Belarus, Poland and Germany are to work together on the Hamburg to Beijing train route.

I wonder if they would consider a rail tour!! 20 days is a bit much though. Wonder how short they can get it.

Would this become the longest rail trip in the world?

It only takes a week really. The other 13 days are for changing the bogies to the different gauges.

Anything that adds to the ever diminishing amount of freight carried by todays railways has to be a good thing.

***Sound like the ultimate excuse for an anything goes layout :)

If Bachmann track it carefully with their Chinese models, EU models and UK models, they'll have a really interesting marketing potential!

Yes, that's true. I guess you would need a fair length to fit in China, Russia and Germany in your layout though.

An interesting thought- one would hope so.
