Don't forget the Warships had all gone by 1972 and that was long before the days of high intensity lighting. Generally only the leading headcode should be lit, but in the days of headcodes it was not unusual to find locos with both lit up. Please note you will be hard pushed to find photographic evidence, I just happened to witness it occasionally!

The white and red lights mentioned were in fact only markers and were of very low power (1 x 24v bulb if memory serves)
