I will probably stay up and watch it - I think I've still got some matches.

Well I watched it and very interesting it was. The guys behind Grand Central came across as dedicated and totally believing they can run the survice.

There were some very interesting views of HSTs in all sorts of disrepair along with the coaches. It was revealing watching these venerable trains being upgraded.

Some nice views of driver training on a (I think) DRS 37 and the first power car being delivered by road.

There was also a clip showing the management discussing production of models with a certain Mr. Kohler.

All in all a good programme, we seem to be getting some at last.

Thats the funniest thing I have read in ages!! I wonder what hornby will be doing next year!!!!!

I wonder how the bachmann chaps felt upon seeing that clip??

Seriously though, i wonder if 2008 is finally the year when we get a decent HST or will they just do another repaint job? i have been keeping an eye open for the new trains when i go through kings cross but i havent seen any yet.

Someone has just pointed out on another forum that the GC HST's are the buffer fitted examples. hmm that will be an extra tool insert then Mr Kohler!

I must admit that that didn't even occur to me, and of course you are quite right about the units being buffer fitted. I think the one they showed was 43067.

Saw one of the power cars on a Lowloader yesterday on the M1 heading North. Very nice it was to. Pity I was driving and couldn't get a photo.
What Americanism?

As it's only recently they've discovered the Lima tools were stuffed so it's probably more likely to be 2009. I could wait an extra year if that's the case. Boy I wonder how many would hit eBay if that news broke!

I think it would almost certainly knock the stuffing out of the market.

I'm looking to jump the gun a bit and repaint one of my Lima HST's, can anyone suggest a suitable colour? Looking at the various photo's on fotopic satin black would look most likley, any ideas?

(also has anyone any suggestions for the HST buffer beams?)
Could it be the Hornby have been working on a new HST for sometime and are preparing the release of one next year?

On that basis it does not make sense to re engineer the LIMA one this year which is why the old Hornby one has reappeared! As a cover Hornby tell us the LIMA tool is imperfect. Strange how they only found that out when they came to use it. When buying assets of a company- you typically document them and appraise their condition on purchase.

Given that Hornby have gone to some lengths to model the various front ends of a 56 , I don't think the provision of more than one type of HST power car will be a problem ie one with buffers.

Could it also be that Hornby will launch a DCC sound system at the same time to further co-erce people into their Digital system? HST perfect model to do this with.

Well they've let the cat out of the bag regarding sound. There will be at least one sound fitted model for 2008.

RMweb thread on Hornby sound.
Saw a freshly painted carriage going North this afternoon on the M1 near Leeds I wonder how many new releases till they get their full set!!!

I saw one around Nottingham so must have been the same one. That's a power car and carriage for me!! The doors are a very similar grey to the Midland Mainline ones. I hope they aren't going to move the whole fleet this way, defeats the object of them running on rails!!

I suspect that they will move the whole lot this way as it's cheaper, also I have a feeling that HST sets can only be moved on Network rail as complete units as the coaches do not have buffing gear.

Grand Central services started yesterday. There's a short video on the BBC news website.
