Some greenery was added to the hills last night, I don't think its perfect but there we go. Pictures aren't great but give a good idea of the site, some taken before ballasting others after. Does the ballast look right? I had this feeling all night that it was too light. You'll also have to forgive the odd intruder in the pictures and spot the wonky tree, it wouldn't stay where I wanted it to be whilst it glued!

The A72 bridge area...

The bank by the bridge...

The freight branch...

The run down the mainline...

The drivers view out of the tunnel...

May I make one suggested!

On the 2nd picture where the wide support wall is you could have a bit of greenery from there going ito a point'ish just to break up the large amount of ballast that is between the tracks, It is just a frienly suggestion.

The ballast colour looks ok to me also.

Kind regards

Sounds reasonable, I'll allow it!

I was beginning to think the same thing, perhaps with it following the track under the bridge.

That sounds like a very good idea mate, Go for it.

Don't forget to include a 'revised' picture though

A revised picture! The grass is leftovers unfortunately so when I get some new grass I might replace it.

A test of my photographic ability, a 158 passes under the road bridge.

I should have put switched the headlights on and it probably could have done with interior train lights, but they ain't fitted!

Once again money has slowed progress, but rest assured plans are afoot!

I have revised my plans for Glentress station and yard, I felt something just wasn't right, there wasn't the right 'feel' about it. Anyway I have swapped the station and yard around so the station is towards the back and yard infront of it, but kept the loop for freight trains off the branch.

The new junction at the north (Peebles) end of the station, little has really changed although a new curved point is installed on the inner line.

As can be seen in the following shots, basically the two shed roads have moved to the the far side of the station and become single ended sidings as opposed to the double ended roads they were before. The added bonus is longer station platforms.

The bit I am not sure on is a set of points that I included where the previous end of station junction was, I think I may remove them as they add little to the layout operationally. They are beside the shed building in this view.

Any thoughts?

Hi HHF.

Do you have space to get another platform in between the furthest away track and the back of the layout as that would actually make much more sense operationally? Maybe you could fit some baseboard extensions in between the roof joists. I'm thinking "How do passengers get to the platform" ?

If this is possible you could then have a low-relief station building and possibly have either a printed backscene of the rears of some terraced houses backing onto the furthest away line or, if there's enough room, have some low-relief terrace house rears with a Townscene roofscape backscene behind them.

Just a few thoughts.

Hmm, a question on the Stagecoach bus in the photo below.

If that's a Stagecoach East Kent Metrobus II it's well and truly lost as they were all based in Ramsgate while carrying that livery.

Constructive comments are always welcome, so please print them here. It is one option I have looked at, although the room behind the furthest track on the board is quite limited, but there is air between that and the roof joists. The other option was to have a walkway and stairs from the side of the A72 road bridge (which can't quite be seen in the last photos), perhaps with a station building at street level. This should be the next part of the layout to get scenery, thats why there is currently no access for the punters!

Ermmmm...........Yeah, okay it is an East Kent bus, the minibus is a bit lost too, but I have no other buses that could be suitable and they were to hand at the time. Does anyone know the correct bus company for the Peebles area?

I had thought the new position of the station would allow an irregular train service to somewhere down the branch, but whilst the road bridge has room to spare, I have built the tunnel on the branch line for short freight vehicles and shunters, so now I find that the only passenger vehicles that will fit are class 101s and possibly 142s! So I might leave that idea on the drawing board.

Yes that would work. Just make the A72 road bridge wider and have a high level station with stairs down to platform level.

Quite sad that I spotted it actually, but as one of my other interests is the history of the East Kent Road Car Company..........

I think there are a couple of options here, some more prototypical than others.

First Edinburgh, or MacEwan's Coaches. There's also the Annandale Transport Initiative...

Thank you, I'll keep my eye out for more suitable vehicles.

Its clearly of interest to you, so I don't think any of us have a right to mock it, regardles of how picky it might seem!

A week of electrical problems has meant that not much has progressed on the layout and worse still, not much 'testing' either!

Anyway, one of the trains I did get running was rather special.

47799 and 47798 wait to leave Peebles.

And later, are seen passing between the hills

The electrical problems pesist and it looks like I might have to remove most of the scenic level to fix it, so I have been think about Peebles future. I have seen a few different layouts about which have spawned ideas in my head, my hope is that I can come up with an idea that combines everything I like about this layout and at the same time have new elements that will interest me in the future. I like lots of things about this layout, especially the 'valley' scene, hopefully I can recreate this.
