Heljan report good progress being made on their first 'O' gauge locomotive and are delighted to be able to update customers with more news on their 'O' gauge (7mm to 1ft scale, 32mm gauge) locomotive plans. As revealed last year they will be launching the range later this year with the popular Class 35 'Hymek' which is to be made available in both BR green and BR rail blue colour schemes.
This project will result in a complete, ready-to-run, fully decorated model which will be an equal if not better product than their 'OO' scale products. All the usual features will be incorporated such as lighting, DCC ready PCB and a wealth of factory and customer applied detail parts. New innovations include etched radiator roof fan and lifting rings.
Work is at an advanced stage and these pictures show a test moulding of the bodyshell which has since been analysed and updated with minor corrections made. You will note the adoption of late style boiler flue and the fitting of low level cab door hand grabs.
The new model is scheduled for release in October 2005 and will retail at an approximate price of GBP350. The Class 35 will be followed quickly by the Class 47 which is likely to be even more popular. Watch out for more news soon.
