Hi, just joined. Long term 00 gauge modeler, 50s 60s steam, bit of early diesel, building round the loft layout, which might be finished one day
. Just came across this forum, looks like it will be useful for tips etc.

Hi there and welcome to the Forum.

There are certainly plenty of those.

QUOTE 50s 60s steam
Any particular region? I tend to west Yorkshire, but more 50s than 60s.

Hi there and welcome to the MRF.

It sounds as though you are already a pretty experienced modeller but, if you need any help or advice, we're a pretty friendly bunch so just ask away. Interesting 'handle'. Could that be a layout name by any chance ??

I feel sure you'll enjoy your visits and soon get into the thick of things.

I would guess at BR(S)

Hello from another relative newcomer who already feels very welcome.
Thanks for the welcome. I chose "watersmeet" as an id because it was the loco on the last up Atlantic Coast Express I travelled on (must have been in 1964) which rather shows my age. My original layout idea was for the Somerset and Dorset in the 1950s and I got together/made/renumbered etc. various stock for this. Then of course I started on the North Cornwall line in early sixties (see first comment) and I once lived near the ECML and I've been on various railtours and don't these new diesel models run very well - you know how it is! So the collection has rather spread geographically and historically I'm afraid.

A friend (now deceased) had a layout that ran to timetable, used 4 operators and he swapped stock and buildings to represent different regions for each session.

Now I've got the boards down in the loft and can run right round it, I'm finding a lot of basic layout building things that I need to know so a forum like this should be v. helpful. Already found out about live frog crossovers which was becoming a hassle, for example.

Cheers for now.

Hi there and welcome.
A Southern background can't be a bad thing I think, but I too give in far too easily to temptations from varied eras and systems I'm afraid so I'll never produce anything remotely prototypical - but I will be having a lot of fun

Small world dept; there's a photo of Watersmeet in the November Model Rail - part of a Chris Leigh layout plan, and a related childhood reminiscence of his on his 'Backscene' page.

Regards.
