Afternoon everyone,

I'm just starting my layout (technically my 3rd attempt but 1 and 2 were never completed). Being a keen rail enthusiast I haven't decided what to model yet, my 'stock' ranges from steam age loco's to 70's through to modern deisels.

I'm considering a two part layout set "somewhere Scottish" (i live in Dundee) (my ultimate layout is Edinburgh Waverley but I don't have enough room (by some way!) to even consider this) which can be run in modern or '60's guise. Easier said than done as I haven't started it yet.

I also want it to be DCC although haven't taken the plunge and bought any DCC stock yet, thats one of the reasons I've joined here to see what the DCC lemons are.

Not much else to say, hopefully I will keep you updated as I go along!

Hi & welcome to the forum,

Layouts are rarely finished anyway.

Have a trawl back through the DCC section (hard hat advisable for some threads) - there is lot's of opinions & experience there. Work out for yourself who really knows what they are talking about & make up your mind from there.

One thing most DCC'ers do agree on though is, if possible try out as many systems as you can before you take the plunge.

Plenty of other advise here as well - please keep us posted on your progress.
Hi Zedbob,

welcome to the forum. From Dundee eh? I used to live in East Fife, Leven and St Andrews so I am quite familiar with Dundee. If you look through the previous discussion it is quite easy to see what the DCC lemons are.

cheers

Neil
Hi Zedbob and welcome, the natives are mostly friendly although on some threads it is truly said that the pen is nowhere near as powerful as the AK 47 when a persuasive argument is needed.

Enjoy your visits.

Regards
Hi zedbob, loving the name.

I'm from the Dunfermline area and i've never been up Dundee way actually. lol.

Be sure to check out the DCC threads although that might take a while 'cause there's a lot. They said space/time was big! And check out the jargon busters and that.

HAVE FUN!

Although I live in Dundee I'm from Edinburgh and I go there once or twice a month, I will have shot past you a hundred times along the A90!

I'm getting a bit daunted by the DCC mountain, standing at the top of it I'm sure I will enjoy the view at the top but it seems an awful lot of work to get there!!

I've just noticed I'm a baggage porter, whats that all aboot??

This raises a whole new set of questions;

Do I have to wear a uniform when reading the Forum?

Do I wear a hat at a 'jaunty' angle and a tie loosely tied?

Should I join a trade union? If so will I automatically strike for higher wages?

finally, and most improtantly, where do I get a cup of tea (and I presume I will have to make this myself, unless there are any assistant-baggage-porters about)

Now you are a ticket collector you get a baggage porter to make the tea.
