This link might help. It says this about fitting decoders. "This procedure will be similar for most 6 or 4 axle Lima locomotives."

Jeff
Talking of warships has anyone converted a minitrix loco n gauge to dcc, i have a 'hermes' loco i would like to put on dcc but with most of it being metal i am a bit nervous to make a start before seeing an article or advice if it has been done before any or any pitfalls involved.
Fitting of LED'S would be an idea as goodness knows where replacement bulbs can be sought for the minitrix.
Not sure what the insides of your Hermes looks like, but here's a decoder fitting guide for a minitrix class 27. http://www.bobclay.co.uk/DCCMinitrix27.html Yours may be more like the Minitrix V200 though. Here's a guide, (in German), for fitting a decoder in that loco. http://www.1zu160.net/digital/einbaubsp/mtx-v200.php Bablefish will give you a rough translation.

I have not actually converted a Warship loco, but I have done class 156 DMU, 121 DMU all of which use a very similar motor. I use a Bachmann function 3 decoder. You only need to use the Orange & Grey wires which connect to the motor terminals, and the black and red which connect to the pickups. Apart from the class 67, the above will work on all Lima "Pancake" motors. One tip, I strip the motor down, make sure all the gears are free running (they are not always and sometimes need the hole opening up very slightly in the gear wheels so they are not tight on the pivots). Remove all the grease on the gears and just add plain model lubricating oil in place of the grease. You should get much better running after that. Hope this helps.
