HELLO ALL FELLOW TRAIN BUFFS!
I AM TRYING TO OBTAIN A RARE( NOW) COALING STAGE. IT IS IN A VERY OLD HORNBY MAGAZINE FROM 1980!!
(WE RECENTLEY FOUND A COPY, REALLY REALLY INTERESTING!)
THE CATALOGUE NUMBER IS: R191, AND IT'S CALLED THE COALING STAGE KIT. IT REALLY IS NICE, NOTHING THESE DAYS CAN MATCH UP WHICH WE'VE FOUND.
SO IF ANYONE CAN HELP US OUT, WE WOULD BE REALLY GRATEFUL.
MANY THANKS.
SIGNAL BOX MAN.

Hi.
I think there may be one on E Bay at the moment.
Hi

Is that the one that had the tipping green hopper cars and the coaling stage was a bridge and it dropped it down to the cars underneath?

If so I had one when I was a kid loved it!

The faller kit 940 is an excellent one and is fully operational with working conveyors, hoppers, motors etc. Made in 1998.

The only Triang item I can find is a "Gravity Unloading Set" with the number R.161, illustrated in the Triang-Hornby Book of Trains published in 1968. Pat Hammond's "The Story of Rovex Vol 1 1950-1965" lists this set as first being marketed in 1957, althought the hopper wagon (R.111) was introduced in 1955. Set R135 Operating Ore Wagon set is the same but with an 'ore car' instead (R.214?) from 1958 onwards; both sets were available for several years.

The R.111 wagon was made until 1968, but the unloading sets were not reintroduced in the Triang-Hornby period of 1965-71, as far as I can make out from Vol 2 of Pat Hammond's history.

Sorry I am a bit tardy with the reply - just a bit of info on the catalogue numbers:

The ore hopper tipping set was R415 and the red brick built coling stage with the central blue crane - was R191.

R191's turn up on ebay quite frequently...
Opps, I gave this one away (R191) to a mate for use on his layout about 3 months ago, as I had no use for it.

Hi.

This coaling stage kit was made for Hornby Railways by POLA. It was also available under the POLA name. (So, it is based on a "continental" prototype, and is strictly to HO Scale.)

POLA were later taken over by FALLER.
