hi,just seen topic for coaltowers, the february issue of british railway modeller hasan article on building a concrete coaling tower by allan downes, size, sketches&photos, looks like this is what you want.
>the february issue of british railway modeller
Thanks for the tip.

By the way, I saw the Townstreet coaling tower at Warley. It looks very nice. I think the price was in the £60s.

It's actually £69.50 plus p & p in "00". It looks from the adverts in the model mags a really great CS.

From your view of it at Warley Dave, roughly how tall is it??

About 5 or 6 inches I think. I didn't think it was as tall as many photos would suggest. I could be way off the mark here. When you see something in isolation in a fairly large space, it can "grow" quite a bit bigger when it comes home.

I mean have you ever seen furniture advertised in the space available in most modern houses?

David
The Townstreet advert (page 63a of the February Railway Modeller) shows this to be about 3 times the height of the arch over the two tracks. I would estimate this to be about 7 inches overall.

Townstreet don't appear to have a website. Their phone number is 015394 35465 2 to 8pm Mon-Fri.

I wouldn't argue with that.

I had a look a few months ago and came to the same conclusion. I guess they're too busy to need the exposure. Sometimes you have too many enquiries to deal with.

Hi John & David
Thanks for the phone number for Townstreet.
Just called them and they confirm the CS size to be:-
High 242mm (9 1/2"); Length 139 (5 1/2"); Wide 150mm (6") Width has to have added the need to include one track on the loading side beyond the 150mm base size.
Its a twin track Coaling Stage underneath with twin hoppers! The kit has a cast resin hoist and some brass fitting too.
Now, do I ordered one??? Tapes out measuring space!

Cheers

I've also seen this coaling stage close up, I don't think you'll be disappointed it looks the part.

I plead my "seen out of context" defence

It's a bit of a cottage industry and may not have the turn over to warrant it. Their product is brilliant though. I have few and they look great.
Tichy make an excellent model of a Fairbanks Morse 500t coaling tower. It is of US origin but could be hacked up to create a more british looking model. IHC, International Hobby Corporation, make a model of the UP coaling stage at Cheyene which was of 1000t capacity. An LMS Cenotaph model was a feature in the last British Railways Modellers of Australia journal. When I get back home in a few weeks I'll see if I can scan the plans for the model.
