I have got a 'castle' class 3rail engine and am wanting to know how to convert it to 2rail running

Hi & welcome to MRF.

It's possible to carry out almost any conversion, but when going from 3 to 2 rail it involves a lot of work. At least all the wheels one side will have to be insulated & pick ups fitted to the insulated ones.

It's possible that you will also have to insulate the valve gear or cylinders.
I'm guessing this model has sentimental value otherwise I would suggest selling it as it would fetch reasonable money as a collector's item and then buy a newer model or wait for the new Hornby??
