The tricky thing with the magazines is that they tend to do series of "how to", so it takes a while for a reader to build up a picture of where it's all going. There have been several threads on the Forum about the strengths of the various magazines and our preferences. Perhaps someone could recommend a comprehensive book for starters?

For the space you have available, an alternative plan could be to have a locomotive depot, say steam or diesel? It's an excuse for plenty of locos!

If you want to sit back and watch the trains go by, 3ft width isn't going to work in OO gauge; if you don't, you'll certainly be able to build a very satisfying layout in that kind of space.
