That's a very fine model. I don't suppose BR was using these in the '50s though it wouldn't have had those markings as I would find it hard to refuse one a home on my layout?

I particularly like the photo of the 20, two ballast wagons and van. It's really hard to tell it's not the real thing.

Thanks for posting the review.

Thanks Doug, stands up to close photography pretty well, doesn't it!

You are in luck. BR built these vehicles as a development of a very similar LMS design. Hornby have some coming in the Engineering Department Black that they carried in the 50's. For sure there will be one of these on my circa 1960 layout, in typical 'rusty and dusty' condition.

It's good to see that now Hornby have made a start on bringing out wagons (of a standard to match their more recent locos and coaches), they have done a suite of well chosen track engineering vehicles which can be combined with many existing types to make a half century or thereabouts of typical formations.

That makes sense but may be bad news for my wallet

I'll have to look out for the earlier versions.

R6432 BR black as well as R6433 BR departmental and R6434 BR olive green were released in September. The BR black one is lettered as an Eastern region vehicle based at Stratford. Nice range of pictures as usual on ehattons - http://www.ehattons.com/StockDetail.aspx?SID=24085
I bought the BR black version at our Langley Park show - it really is an excellent model and goes well with my P-Way wagons. I'm also considering whether to get a few more of the black Grampus wagons by Dapol.

Dan

The contrast between those pictures and Doug's is quite simply staggering. The standard coupler just kills the model effect completely! Doug's photos make me want to buy the wagon. The Hattons shots make me pass on by.

Thanks for the info on availability.

David
I wish I had a camera as good as Doug's - his really gets the detail (and any imperfections!).
