Hornby have recently released pre-production images of the new super detailed Class A1/A3 locomotives "Flying Scotsman", "Great Northern", Windsor Lad" and "The White Night". All locomotives feature the highly rated Hornby 5 pole skew wound loco drive motor, sprung buffers, cab and tender detail and a fixed rear wheel assembly (as the prototype). All examples of the new model will be DCC ready and feature NEM couplings. The images below are courtesy of Hornby and have been enhanced by Model Rail Forum to enable viewers to appreciate the effort that Hornby have put in to produce a definitive model of the most famous locomotive in the world and its fellow class members. The Hornby "Flying Scotsman" is a British National Railway Museum special edition and is a replica of the famous locomotive as exhibited by the museum in York in 2004. This permits modern outline modellers to run "Flying Scotsman" steam specials on their layouts. "Great Northern" will be the first model released with the remaining locomotives available by the end of October.

We apologise in advance for leaving the images full size during the photo edit as the detail within the images is such that to make them any smaller would reduce the level of detail within the images. The model may be ordered from any of the Model Rail Forum advertisers and stockists featured in the links section and discounts are available at one retailer for Model Rail Forum members. With Xmas in mind it is expected that "Flying Scotsman" will be in short supply so anybody who is interested would be advised to get their order in now! :-

To reinforce the point made about pre-ordering these brand new Hornby Class A3/A4 locomotives (if you want to secure one before Xmas) I have just visited the website of a large model railway stockist and within the top 10 list of sellers are the four Hornby Class A3/A4 locomotives with the loco currently making number one and two in the list!

Now these are not out for a few weeks so it is very likely that the allocation of that particular stockist will be all pre-sold to customers before delivery.

And this is very likely going to be the case at most of the stockists featured either in links or banners at Model Rail Forum.

You cannot rely on stocks being available at the Warley Model Railway show at the NEC.

Don't say you were not warned!

Nice to see the new models - but will Hornby take off the 'blinkers' on Flying Scotsman now that the NRM has? (See 'The Railway Magazine' for October.)

Maybe Hornby will include the smoke deflectors as detailing parts to be fitted by the customer as required?

Lets have a poll on this.

Visit the OO gauge section and vote on the new "Flying Scotsman" model. Yes or no to smoke deflectors?
