Hornby hst bogie surpressor

Can anyone tell me what the surpressor does on an original Hst 125 motor? Mine is missing and the thing will only run at a crawl. Is that the cause?

the suppression is only there to prevent radio/tv interference. if it will only crawl suspect that the brushes are full of oil and the motor needs a good clean, or the magnet has lost its power.

I have now just replaced the brushes & springs. Its still the same. I have also given it a full clean out. Can I replace the magnet ? Whats the best thing to do. I dont want to bin it. Id like to get it running
