Hi all,

The latest Hornby Mag has dropped through my letterbox this morning.

The adverts seem to be on the increase, at least they all seem to be contained at the back of the mag!

Here we go:-

East Cranford layout

Warley Exhibition round up

Behind the scenes at Hornby...... How Hornby produce new models.

First steps, layout from a box

Scratch building billboards, includes period adverts to use on your own built billboards.

Multilevel layouts.

Mike Wild talks to Dennis Lovett about Underground Ernie

Lamp codes including illustrations of all BR lamp codes.

Condicote layout

Reverse loops

Trestles and hgow they can be used to support a layout.

Lighting....shows and reviews some of the Ott-lite range of desk top lights.

Off the shelf modelling:- Diesel shunters.

Plus lots of other items and reviews!

Cheers

Ian

Also in newsagents. And very good it is too!

I just got issue 6 last week! My son will like the bit about Underground Ernie. I would be interested in hwo Hornby produce new models. I have seen how some other companies do it so it will interesting to see the Hornby process.
I had a very quick flick through in smiths. it looked like the best issue yet.

Another excellent issue, it just seems to get better and better. This issue also contains full reviews of the Bachmann Jubilee and the Aristocraft 66. Amother highlight, for me anyway, was the overview of the Hymeks (tied in to the review of the Dapol model.

Once again a treasure trove for the beginner and the not so beginner, just goes to show you're never to old to learn.

I had a small moan as all the free adverts are fractionally to early for me to use as they all seem to be around 1960 ie the all new Austin Seven (mini to you and me).

Mind you one thing I did notice is the number of articles that reflect what has been discussed in the last few weeks here on the forum. Are we ghost writing for the mag?

Cue Black 5 man.

I also remember many moons ago asking for some behind the scenes articles.
I am sure its a coincidence but its a nice thought.

Cue Black 5 man.
..
Black 5 man is away for Christmas, but I'm sure he'll be tempted to look in now and then whilst on his travels.

Were do these magazine guys get their ideas from...? If they didn't keep their ears to the ground, their magazines wouldn't be very interesting at all.

Likewise, which is why I have started getting it monthly.

For me it is by far and away the best mag. What I like is that the layouts and advice featured are do-able. I have modest modelling skills so rely on RTR and kits (Metcalfe et al) I like Hornby Mag because it caters my level. The quality and layout is also superior.

That's right and this is on complete contrast to some other well known mags.

It's getting harder and harder to put this one off!

Sorry Britho, I was a bit slow out of the traps there. I've been away in Australia for four weeks and only just got back. Not even had chance to read No.7 myself yet, although I did see a fair bit of it before I went away. Actually got a copy of issue 8 yesterday - who's idea was it to go monthly anyway?

Looking forward to No8 , especially as it has Dewsbury Midland on it.

You should have popped in to say hello when you were here. I could have taken you along to a BRMA meeting so you could drum up more subscribers. The members I have shown it here have been very interested.

Neil,

Sadly, I didn't make it to Melbourne this time - if I had been heading your way I would have got in touch before setting off - only managed from Port Douglas up in Queensland, down to Sydney and various places in between. Visited Kuranda Scenic Railway and Thurlmere-Buxton line and museum, but not much evidence of railway modelling on my travels. Couldn't even find a model shop, but then again I didn't know where to look.

I sent a couple of e-mails to Ian Allan concerning non-delivery. I received a reply, 09.01., from Vera West stating that a replacement copy will be sent, although, as of today, 21.01., I still have not received the replacement copy.

I received issue #8, on 15.01.

Thanks for your concern.

Port Douglas is quite nice. Good place for a holiday. I can think of a couple of places near Brisbane where there are model rail exhibits but you would have to know they were there. If you ever do come down this end give me a shout.
