I am working on the above loco R2784X Engine No. 60022. The wiring has broken off in many places. There are 2 black wires to the tender 1 of which has come off the circuit board. There are 2 black wires from points
1 and 8 on the pcb which connect to a brownish/orange circular thing with 2 legs; I don't know where they fit. Not sure either where the track feeds connect or where a furher red wire goes which is completely detached.

Can anyone advise?

First step, dive into the Hornby site and find the service sheet that has your model's R number on it, that will show the arrangement.

There's the - not very clear - diagram.

According to this there should be two wires from the pick up strips on the loco. If you are running the loco on DC these can simply be connected one to each motor brush, you can ignore the DCC decoder socket. (You don't have to connect the tender pick ups, they are next to useless anyway!)
