I spotted this rare item up for sale on Ebay. It's a LMS Princess Elizabeth with metal parts in 18 carat gold plate. This was a special edition released for the Queens Golden Jubilee and was a limited run of 5000. It is a bit opf a stunner and has never been used. This would be a crowning addition to any collection.

They announce them on the 1st January with their annual product announcement if there is going to be one produced that year. Then its a case of doing what has to be done to make sure you get one. In the case of the gold Princess there was enough of a production run to fill all pre-orders so they did go on general sale however by the year end all were sold.

In the case of the gold Hogwarts Express there were many dissapointed customers.

Happy modelling
Gary
Thanks Gary, think i will keep my eye out for Princess Elizabeth, see if I can snare one for a decent price

Theres one for sale on Ebay at the moment. There's a link in the first post.
Well I regretted not bidding on the limited edition posted at the start of this thread, but not any more! Bought one myself off Ebay last night, and it was slightly less expensive than the first one, and appears to be in equally good condition. See item number 230111178015. Will this be the first one to be fitted with a sound decoder?!

Ok, well maybe not, but I will run it from time to time, I am not a collector, but a modeller who collects

The total was just over £110. Will maybe post some pictures when I get it if anyone would like to see them.

Thats about what I got for mine. There was a guy who got 161 quid the week before for one. Some pictures would be nice if you have some. Are you going to run yours?
It will do the occasional "Special" but will spend 95% of its life in my display cabinet. I run all my locos at some point, otherwise I don't see the point in having them. I was about to say I’m definitely not a collector, but to some I probably am as I never sell any of my items. Some are retired to their boxes but I like to know that they are still there should I fancy running them at any point.
I have all three gold editons Princess Liz, Flying Scotsman and Hogwarts and the special 50th anniversary Princess in Black all in unrun condition. The Hogwarts gold edition is the best one to find it is changing hands at around £2000 in some quarters at the moment and the prices are going up every year.

Grab one will you can folks, prices are going up. Went to a specialist auction this morning and saw a mint unused boxed Gold Edition Flying Scotsman make £2.5K! Yes £2.5K, a buyer in the States bought it, I nearly fainted with shock. Values for the the Gold edition Princess are also going up too and a local model shop has one for sale at £1700.

All Hornby Gold edition locos are going up in price, there is something of a feeding frenzy for these locos at the moment. The aniversary Princess is also making good money too. I can see all these loco's going out of reach to the average guy in the street over the next five years, the way the market is going. if you see it on eBay for less than £200 grab it now whilst you can.

Yes indeed, I kicked myself too, we sold a load of them cheaply at the family shop, then last year the prices just went berserk for them. The three gold editions and the limited 50th issue Princess are all worth keeping at today's prices. They can only go up from their current high values. They have to be mint UNRUN to command the price of course.

i got a gold lizzie a few christmases ago (family bless them, didnt have the heart to tell them i model american) i chuckled at the length of gold plated track that came with it but alas can find no gold track pins so it will remain in its box and use it towards the fees when i end up in a home for the elderly...
