Even easier. One draw back with this model is the tender pick-ups are on only one side of the tender ! A bit of a Hornby throw back this one.

Select a nice small decoder, as this one is going inside the loco. Please get a reliable make, Lenz ( mini gold or silver ), Digitrax DZ143, TCS (M1 MC2), ZTC (403 ? ) all make excellent micro decoders with a good peak amp load. Remove all the Hornby confetti around the motor and snip off the wires from the motor. It's then it's simply Red and black wires from the decoder to the pickups one of them is a brass washer located on top of the gearbox cover. The orange and grey wires are soldered to the motor terminals. Tidy up your wiring and secure the decoder with double sided tape. Please use shrink tube for the joints, insulation tape will unwind and cause a short. If you use a lenz decoder protect the decoder with a shroud as they don't have a protective sheaf. You don't say which DCC system your using so we assume you change CV's with your system.
