QUOTE (Makemineadouble @ 2 Jun 2007, 11:28) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>The Railway channel

for those interested today's Railway Channel features the story of the restoration of G42 and shows the restored Garrett in action on Victoria's Puffing Billy Railway.
Another brilliant presentation.

A really nice video.

More info on that line: http://www.puffingbilly.com.au/

I've been on the Puffing Billy line a few times and haven't seen the Garratt before. I may give them a ring to find out when it's running so I can go up and have a look.

This is the loco they normally run.

I did a bit of a report on Puffing Billy a few months ago. You can volunteer and help out with the running if you feel inclined.

the south african railways/lima situation is another case of them not using the international arm properly (i seem to have turned this into a bit of a theme recently. sorry about that but i am only venting frustration) again they are assuming that only south africans would want to buy SAR models. they have not factored in at all how many they could sell in other parts of the world. they could easily do a limited edition in the various UK sectors and sell it as a normal model in SA.

Anyway. a garrett would be wonderfull.

QUOTE (Makemineadouble)I wonder why the kit master moulds were destroyed, were they part of the ones involved in a fire some years back ?.

QUOTE (BRITHO)I thought they were one of the moulds broken up for scrap in the early 60's?

Sorry i missed those messages.

They were left outside under a tarpawling untill they had rusted then to finish them off the were smashed with a sledgehammer.

A great pity.
