Another good poll Neil thanks,

Difficult one for me this one - I had to "vote" to reflect majority of the rolling stock I have. As many know, primarily SNCB, but the next project will be "MiniEuroscape".

Course, you also have these strange people that model HO UK outline
(full marks though for being a bit different
)

QUOTE (Ozzie21 @ 9 Mar 2007, 10:09) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>I'm curious what is available in British HO. I would prefer it to OO as it would look correct with my US and Australian steam. And if it's only diesel well it's only diesel but I'll still be somewhat interested.

Quite a bit actually - really depends on what period you are interested in - BRITHO is your man for this subject !

Don't forget the 66 (did'nt the British HO Society do a kit for one "pre-Mehano" ?) & the extra short Eurostar Sets made by Lima/Jouef & marketed by Hornby. Rolling stock wise there's always goods stock that used to go back & forth on the channel ferries (I think the hazadous stuff still does) & now use's the tunnel.

QUOTE (neil_s_wood @ 12 Mar 2007, 22:42) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>It's unbelievable that one of Europe's most prestigious trains doesn't have a reasonable model of it. One along the lines of Trix's ICE3 wouldn't go amiss!

It's good to see from the poll what a wide spread of countries modelled we have. There are the understandable blips at Germany and the US but it's good to see other areas are covered too. It would be good to see some layouts of say Italy or New Zealand or even China?

It's nice to see the variety of subjects modelled these days, although China may be a bit expensive for figures (TIC) !

If someone produced a Eurostar of Trix quality they would sell at least two then Neil
- be nice to have a layout suitable to be able to run a full length one a full speed !

QUOTE (ashleyh @ 16 Mar 2007, 13:41) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Personally, I wish Marklin were as proud to put 'Made in Hungary' on the boxes as 'Made in Germany', and I would be prepared to pay a little more for European manufactured goods. What do others think?

I would be prepared to pay a little more for goods (not just model railways either) made in the EU, than the far east, but I suspect that we are in the minority living in a country where generally the bottom line speaks all & longer term does not seem to matter.

QUOTE (Ravenser @ 16 Mar 2007, 16:49) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Very much a personal view, but once it's imported , it's imported and doesn't benefit our economy or us. I'm not really prepared to pay more for goods on the basis that one foriegn country should be supported as opposed to another - unless we are getting into directly supporting oppressive regimes (eg Zimbabwe , or in a past age the Soviet bloc.)

I would have had serious qualms about buying Berliner Bahn or Piko in the days when it meant hard currency for the GDR, but I'm not sure that's quite what you had in mind

My own personal view is that China is a far greater eventual threat than the old Soviet Bloc ever was & they ar'nt oppressive ?

Still, lets export all the work to China - good start would be Banks, Estate Agents & Solicitors (TIC).

We'll all save lot's of money - until it runs out of course.

Still, lets not get too political & go back to playing trains.
