Years ago I used a 19mm off-cut from a kitchin work surface for a base board of a 3ftx2ft N gauge layout. Problem was hiding the wires, couldn't use peco points (used minitrix track and points throughout) and so on - I remeber that even without cork under the track, the trains made no sound ! In those days there were no sound locomotives but imagine today with a totally silent track system and a Sulzer diesel strating up and working a train into a tunnel......

I suppose dreaming is the start of planning.

Sorry, forgot to add a p.s.

We can only get 150mm nails down here - and the supply voltage is supposed to be 230 V when the power is available but I measure it at anything from 210 to 218 V A.C. Will 150mm nails work ?

Not only that, but cork won't make it quieter once it's pinned down.
Edited to add that if you bend over the ends of the nails, it stops them from pulling out, also, don't use the galvanised ones for fuses, as they sputter when you get a bit of an arc going.

It's not getting silly - it is silly, well, some bits are.

Remember the Army Captain in Monty Python "Stop - this is getting silly" ?

Maybe, from the Scot's guy "I won't interupt this sketch for a poound".

Can someone remind me what we were discussing before we hi-jacked the thread?

Well we were discussing this lump of wood but then it got electrically technical.

Why does galvnising make the fuse splutter. What will be the effect if I finally get hold of some 5 A fuse wire to add to Bachmann's 25 087 to fit the hand rails around the doors - there's four doors, that's eight hand rails and Bachmann have not succeded in making any that fit !

My 25 087 pulls a train of wagons with shell fish inside. It may not be what Mr M Python originally intended but I think the price of fish will probably be influenced by electricity consumption even when it is the parrott that needs a jolt.

Someone on this forum stated that getting old was mandatory (done that) but that growing up was optional - well, I used to be indecisive but now I'm not so sure.

Are there any rules about using imperial or metric units ?

Aren't sheds built in Canada - that could be the problem.
