Hello,
Junee Station in south west NSW underwent a moderate re-vamp in the last twelve months. Looks like they removed 150 years of paint layers before repainting and levelled out the footpath and gutter.
Built in 1883, Junee was the home of NSWGR loco maintenance for many decades.

The building to the left was the old NSWGR main office, now occupied by Australian Rail and Track Corporation (ARTC).

New roofing was done also.

Transport hub Plant Track Building Railway

The main platform.
The XPT (read 1980s HST) runs daily from Sydney to Melbourne. Six car set with sleeper and buffet.
The Griffith Explorer comes in from Griffith as a two-car set (not XPT) from a western spur line. Driver relocates to the other end and train then runs the main line north to Goulburn.
At Goulburn, a three-car set from Canberra is added and the five cars then head on into Sydney. Sorry, I don't know the make/type of this train. 1990's I think.

Plant Rolling stock Sky Track Tree

From the platform, looking south.
There's a major container hub about 10-20km further south, so a lot of rolling stock in this area. As part of the Inland Rail Project, the footbridge will be removed. There's a road bridge just near the signal box and that will be raised. This is to accommodate double-height container stock.

Brown Sky Tree Twig Trunk

This tree is somewhere between my place and the proposed rail line.

That thing is a goanna. My niece and I were returning from a 5500 step :( walk and it ran up the tree to get away from us.
The birds will let you know if they are around, the goannas like to steal eggs. Kookaburras will literally chase them off by hounding them out of the area.

I lucked the photos as the overcast sky reduced the glare so the colours are probably close to reality. They also got rid a blind step that you either fall down coming out; or trip over going in.
I recently realised that this is an old station by world standards, not just local ones.

I love the character of several of those NSW country stations; there is a magnificence about them. I have been through Junee on many occasions over the years, but always in the early hours of the morning (like 2:00 am) on the Melbourne to Sydney and return trains. When fully lit up in the dead of night, Junee (and Wagga Wagga) look spectacular.

They all differ slightly. I've only been through Wagga once, on the trip to Melbourne. Cootamundra used to be a wonderful 'Italinate' style building. But "they" have done everything possible to destroy any charm that it used to have. I think Goulburn is still more or less intact. The 1980s were unkind to most railways in many areas.
