okaaay.......has ANYBODY tried Kadee N gauge, or HON3, couplers in 4 mm, [00gauge]?

seeing as they are far less noticeable.......and that fact has apparently not gone 'un-noticed' by US modellers seeking the finescale route?
model junction does both the kadee range and the mirco trains for n gauge these are the same as kadee range
Alastair,

I have fitted a pair of Kadee no. 58 "scale" couplers to an 00 Lima Syphon. These are N gauge couplers in a No.5 draft box. They have worked OK but I have not bothered to standardise on them because, like No.5s, they do not have a long enough shank to hide the draft box under the buffer beam while still having the inside back edge of the knuckle in line with the face of the buffers.

They would probably be great for HO.

hi, thanks.....would sprung buffers make a difference [as with 3 link couplings?]

must see if a long shank version is available...I wish?
In trying to fit kadees and doing other work on stock and layout - I sometimes want to use some tiny self tappers - e.g. 2mm or smaller diameter. Anyone know where I can get them (ideally 100 or more at a go).

Thanks

Tim,

Squires supply no.2 x 3/16 countersunk or pan head screws. Code 190-310 or 190-330 respectively in packs of 100.

"I have fitted a pair of Kadee no. 58 "scale" couplers to an 00 Lima Syphon. These are N gauge couplers in a No.5 draft box."

Kadee do not make N scale couplers , that is Micro-trains which was a part of the Kadee group until the split up.
The No 58's are in fact "scale" HO couplers.

Ron
Kadee make a large variety of couplers from HOn3 upto big G scale - ee their website

www.kadee.com

For N scale see WWW.micro-trains.com

You are quite right. I bought my no.58s quite a while ago, perhaps before the split. When in fact did Micro-trains split off?

I see from Kadees web site that the No.58 uses type 'E' couplers. Are these not the same design as their old N gauge couplers, or perhaps these are for HOn3 stock?

It would be interesting to find a type E coupler with a longer shank, which is what Alastair is looking for.

http://www.squirestools.com/

Tim

Yes Tim, this the Squires that appears at modelling exhibitions all over the country. If you buy anything from them, they give you their 700 page catalogue. Tel. 01243 842424. This is not much help to you if you are not based in the UK though is it? Their minimum order value is £7.50 and they do not charge for P&P.

You may also be able to get these screws from Dolls House suppliers or from an Industrial Fasteners supplier. These latter crop on industrial estates round most towns, but they often have a minimum order value.
