We've inherited hundreds of model railway magazines dating from the 1950's through to the 1980's, including what must be an almost complete set of Railway Modeller magazine for this period. There are seven, very heavy banana boxes full.

If anyone would like them or can recommend a charity that would benefit from them, please get in touch.

They are free to a good home that can collect from Cornwall (PL18). I'd hate to see them go to waste as they were dearly loved by my late Father-In-Law.

Many thanks

Hi Laura,

My sympathies to you, I often wonder what my nearest and dearest are going to do with all my books and magazines when the time comes! Some of the preserved railways will take magazines for subsequent sale and, often, model railway clubs will take them to sell on at their exhibitions. There is a website which lists local clubs which you can find here: http://www.ukmodelshops.co.uk/other/clubsheader.php

I hope that helps.

Richard

I had years worth of mags like that and nobody really wanted them as the hobby has changed so much over the years. They went to the tip eventually after carrying them all over Reading trying to sell them to bookshops who didn't even want them for free.

Persons unknown bring them to our Club for us to do something with them, so we put them on a table at our show with an honesty box and let visitors help themselves. Any leftovers used to go to our local RSPCA shop, but in a sign of the times even that has just shut! Shame really as they used to like getting them in small batches, and they used to sell quickly as well so they were of some use to somebody.

As Richard suggests your local Club might help you. As an aside we regularly get gifted model railway equipment as well which can be a boost to club income.

I was a Hornby Mag subscriber but after 9 years decided to give it up due to finding that it was becoming overloaded with ads and also beginning to repeat itself. So I thought I'd take my mags to the doctors for the waiting room, sorry but we can't take them. So I advertised them, no replies, offered them to friend no takers. SO alas they went in the recycle bin. 9 year 12 mags a year 108, weigh a lot. I didn't have room to store them and I never referred to them after reading them. So I now look at them in the shop and if there is something I want I buy it, BUT after 2 years I not bought one. There's a lot to be said for electronic copies these days
