Latest Hornby service sheets - M7, Britannia, and Class 67

Does this mean the imminent arrival of these models? Also notice how Hornby have modified the loco/ender coupling on the Britannia. Looks like the optional distance that you get with Bachmann models combined with the tender pick-ups that have been a trademark of Hornby models.

The 67 appears to have a DCC socket and lights.

Did it have lights in its previous life with Lima.

If my eyesight hasn't deceived me that must be good news.

It did and it was very naff

, looks promising I have great hopes for the improved Hornby version, I bought one of the original versions when they first came out, how I laugh now all the drive was shot to pieces upon taking delivery, how we miss Lima

the lima version had a poor little bulb on it that shone through all of the head and tail lights.

I will have to get on of these especially if hornby sell them for the same price as the Class 59 that has been shown at £48 at 1 model shop.

They do look a good buy. maybe not super detailed but we don't all want that. I've seen the 67,73 and Railcar advertised down to £46.50 which with an improved mechanism can't be bad.

i was speaking to my model shop today and he has said that M7 will be out within the month and the 59 not long after.

Classes 73, 67 and the railcar wont be out untill early next year.

no definate dates for the 7MT have been released.

As to the 67;

Well, it would seem that Hornby aren't modifying the model that much- the couplers remain the old type fitted to the Lima-made 67s. I wuldn't be surprised if the lights remain that single yellow/red thing in between two painted lights...

Still, I'm hopeful!

the 67 dosent look very modified to mee. but mabye it will arrive in 1 piece instead of 14!! that will be a huge improvement. and mabye they will get the colour right! that was the mail reason that put me off buying more than 1.

With regard to release dates Ontracks has a useful page

which has the release dates of all the new Hornby items - the page was last updated 29.08.06.

The M7s will out in about 10 days time, the Brits in November but the Arthurs have been pushed back to January now.....

The ex Lima 67, the cheapest model has flywheel drive, the steam engines not?
As even N gauge models have flywheel drive the space cannot be the reason. Is there anything against flywheels I am not aware of? My continental models with flywheel always seem smoother than models without so I am puzzled.

Thats bad news as the most powerful express SR engines in my stable are my Maunsell class N moguls (and I have only three of them). No faster schedules for some time...... Or what about a Brit in malachite?

I'm really looking forward to the Brit, it looks like it might be the best steam loco yet!

I've ordered Britannia, to transform her into Ariel which was shedded at Holbeck for a little while in the early 50's. It has the same tender, but are there any other detail differences that would make it impossible to rename/number it? I'd appreciate the help of people who know about Britannias!

The pictures of the std class 7 that appeared in BRM certainly make it look like a good model. Though I wonder about a cetain amount picture doctoring as there doesn't appear to the regular amout of Hornby daylight under the trailing truck. If the pictures aren't doctored then yipee! finally someone has noticed that there's no daylight under the real thing. I like the look of the new drawbar too but then they've left the DCC socket in the boiler. Why not put it in the tender and fill the boiler with weight or better still cast the boiler in metal. But as with all things the pictures show a terrific model so once it comes out we'll all see how good it is compared to the old one or a DJH kit of which I have both.

Yes Neil yours is the old one like the two of mine ANZAC and Flying Dutchman. The new ones have the motor in the boiler and I suspect that it'll slip just like the real thing. On the plus side the tender will be big enough to fit sound so I'll be hacking and chopping like I did to the Bachmann 9F.

Just read MRE this morning and they are quoting that the Lima Class 67 crossed with a Hornby Class 50. A new chassis (separate fuel tank/weight section that screws onto the chassis), 5-pole skew wound motor, better motor mounts, 'DCC ready', lights, pick ups on all wheels and Class 50 style gear trains on both bogies driving all axles, all sounds very hopeful

It's good news about the chassis and underframe, but then we have known all along that Hornby will be replacing bogies, wheels, motors and drivetrain on all the ex-Lima diesels.
DCC sockets and lights were also expected.

Unfortunately, the Lima body molding wasn't that good, and the cab front detail was molded on and printed.
Someone told me the bodyside ribbing is all wrong, but I wouldnt know if that was true?

I have two Lima 67's and next to other loco's (66, 37, 47, 57 etc) they look too big and chunky. The real prototype loco looks quite slim and petite.
Maybe the "experts can tell us if they are overscale?

Presumably the "new" model has proper lights.
The old ones were absolute RUBBISH! They even shone through the cab bodywork. Lima's Grand Finale of NAFFNESS!

Who were the people who supposedly lobbied Hornby for an early re-release of ex-Lima models?

its massive by UK standards!! i am not sure of the dimensions but it must be getting on for 65ft. and on only 4 axels!! (you gotta feel sorry for the track!!) i saw one of the royals in the thunderbird siding at kings cross a few weeks ago. it was the dirtyest loco i have ever seen!!
I am hopeing to get 3 of these.(EWS/royal and a silver bullet)

The biggest problem with all the old lima models was that they used yellow plastic and printed evrything on. when they announced the 67 it was supposed to have all these features anyway. but they never delivered on their promises.

i thought the ribbing down the sides had been corrected. it was only the rivit counters that complained about it. aparently it had the wrong number of ribs.

for the record it was totally the wrong colour as well!

for heavens sakes. you seem to have completly missed the point. its better than what we have now which is a load of lousey models at collectors prices. and it wasnt early re-release. we have been waiting 3 years!!

"I hope it's a stop gap" why dont you wait and see the model first rather than judging it buy the old lima one. this is a NEW company we are looking at. they will want to make a good impression.
