*** As a principal no, but png would use less memory for a slightly better quality in the same sized image - thats the only reason I mentioned it. I think the facility is great, and its even better that its involving users and being so well used.

QUOTE I'd have thought ESU would have enabled PNG as its such a good quality visual format for smallest file size....

I was taken aback by the choice of bmp as well seeing that ECoS is based on Linux but then I guess they decided that the majority of their users had PCs and Windows...

Hi
BMP is fine for lossless images, when you want multiple generations, but when the picture is so small, your hardly gonna get fidelity losses that you can notice, which makes a 16million colour palate even more ridiculous.
It is a quite bizzare choice, but is no doubt based upon the original built in images they have.

Still, I do not believe any other DCC system can do it at all, so shouldn't complain too much.

I have to say I do not understand why anyone would buy anything other than an Ecos.

You have to admit that it's <insert adjective of your choice here> expensive.

I don't remember what my mono version cost when new, and I haven't regretted buying it for a moment and am delighted with all the updates and extra features that have been added, but I do wonder would I be prepared to fork out for the colour model if I was choosing again...

Hi

But it is not so expensive when you add up what is included. Take and average system £ 280, add PSU £70, Add Computer Interface £65-120, lets say 90. Add some PC software, ok you can get that free, add Monitor £60 ,

Already thats £500, I paid 525 for mine and for £25 quid extra its a bargain in my mind

I was just trying to enable BMPs to be accepted by the gallery, but the software wouldn't let me and it didn't work out. Not sure why. It's not a default as it is an old file format as this discussion shows.

I would, ......and did, and have no regrets. Looking at some of the posts on the ESU Users forum, lots of users in Germany have more than one ECoS. All we need now is ESU to implement proper Master/Slave linkup between two ECoSs via ECoSLink rather than via the Sniffer port. They have said they'll do it, but I'm not holding my breath.

I think I've seen references elsewhere to the latest version of the Maerklin Central Station (CS2), which is also colour, including user uploadable loco images. Anyone who has upgraded their original CS1 via the "Reloaded" upgrade can have mono user defined loco images same as a mono ECoS 1.

I don't know if Viessmann's or Zimo's latest offerings also have user defined images.

Keith.

I did yes
.... ( via dt i almost had to get a CAB to pick it up )

Had it 36 hrs and I have to say its very very nice, I fid the graphical way that you manage CV control very good and it takes seconds to set acceleration and deceleration along with response settings.

I also like the auto detect function so the system just talks to the chip and programs all the available CV's into the loco setup and also identifies chip versions ... very handy for sound chips and list goes on

Oh yes and been able to take a photo of the loco you have on your layout and upload it to the ecos as the image for that loco is a very nice touch and only takes a minutes to take the photo convert it and upload it ....

Also ipads and smart phones are very easy to setup once you have the Ecos connected to your home network.

Hi
Only joined this forum today, looking to find out more on the ESU tips and tricks. I have the 50200 and use the loksound decoder to all my locos. Recently I have installed the 50708 lighting strip tp three of my coaches, get the system to register the coach with the lighting but can't find where it saves the info, I have the steam loco ticked in order to save the coach with lights in this area but nothing shows, any help to overcome will be appreciated.

Your Loco images are fab for future use

I have installed an ECoS lighting strip in a Bachmann DMU trailer car and made a consist with the decoder in the driving car.

Unfortunately I won't be able to check the settings on my ECoS controller until Sunday night at the earliest but if there is no answer before then, I am happy to take a look. If I forget, don't be shy about reminding me

I have checked the settings for the lighting strip in the trailer car. There's nothing to say really. I have treated the light decoder as a loco with a diesel image, given it a unique address and saved it to the default list 1.

The only difference is that I have the original mono ECoS, not the colour version but functionally they should be equivalent when it comes to saving the data.

Not much help I guess, except "Works for me"
