WHSmiths has a weird policy down our way with their Railway Modeller. They put it on display as soon as next months issue comes in, but take them off the shelf before the month starts and they are sent back. So one needs to be quick to get a copy. This has been done since I was a young lad trying to buy it in the 1980's.
Mind you, the magazine does weird things in that even on the first day it comes out one can find many events advertised that have already been. Usually the first column! Makes one puzzle why they bothered to put them in. Another one of those strange policies. The other magazines I have not noticed this happening. I find it strange this also has been happening ever since I've bought my first RM over 30 years ago.
I must say that staff in WHSmiths are always polite and a pleasure to deal with. Nothing seems too much trouble. They do not mine one entering for a browse like some stores do. They never assume a shifty looking guy is a thief. It is always a pleasure to shop there.
