Now completed the second Lidl display cabinet and filled it with rolling stock and other '00' gauge items.

The cabinets hold a fair amount of items and the first one now has all the shelves fitted and loaded with locos and road vehicles.
The water cranes, the bogie bolster wagons and the majority of the rolling; the cast Hornby figures date from the mid 50's. Some of the cars are that age too. These were mine from my childhood.

Note that I had hoped to mount them next to each other but the door is slightly larger on the second and they looked mismatched so mounted on different wall.

QUOTE (Long funnel & tiresome @ 11 Dec 2012, 14:56) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>. . . On sale at LIDL's from 17/12 2012 floor standing display cabinets H110 X W68 X D20 with lockable door £59.99

Can you link us up to a pic of one?

LF&T

Here's a pic of the one I got last time they were on offer. (Last Dec/Jan)
[The pic was taken with the doors open as there was too much reflection in the glass.)

Someone else has said they are heavy ~ I can confirm that !!! It's all the glass for the doors and the shelves that creates most of the weight.
It can be wall mounted, and mine is mounted on the wall -- BUT you may notice that it's also standing on top of a cabinet. (I didn't want to have to bend down to floor level to see the locos on the lower shelves.) There was no way that I was hanging THAT weight on the wall with just a few screws.
I've used all of the 10 supplied glass shelves but they can be spaced in a variety of ways to suit whatever configuration of locos you might want to display.

Just popping back to say that for anyone looking for one of the Lidl cabinets ~ it may be worth checking out your local stores.
There were still two of the large ones and five of the smaller ones available at my local Lidl this morning.

That would be nice. Hornby should offer a package deal on that one. I think Bachmann once sold a triple set of Commonwealth of Australia, each one in a different livery carried by that locomotive.

Pity they don't have them in Irish stores
