Lokprogrammer question

explore the files section of the LokSound Group - I saw your joining intro post so you have much resource at hand within that roup.

(case 1
changing sounds within a soundfile on your computer? If so that is as easy as drag and drop within the file, then upload to decoder.

Open the soundfile within LokProgrammer. delete the file you want to delete to make space, noting its position in the matrix and noting its settings first. Use the LHS explorer type panel to find the file you want to add. Drag it into the RHS window. Load sounds to decoder.

(case 2
changing the sounds in an existing locomotive soundfile on a LokSound decoder and you do not have the original sound file.

In that case, you simply cannot do it, sorry!

On another tangent I found that when uploading a complete ESU sound the CV defaults would all default to factory settings, no big shakes really I just re-did them all via the laptop, its just probably me being dense but if you have a loco on your test track and start off the wizard, choose 'complete new sound change' it changes all of the CV's.Is there a way to avoid this?

Also using windows vista I found the software would crash at almost every attempt when I clicked on upload new CV settings and the only way out was task manager and start again, time after time it would freeze the software; I was chatting to a couple of others who also experienced this problem and originally it was version 2.6.6 upgraded via the firmware update on the ESU site. After trying everything including reboots, uninstalls, reinstalls etc I tried one more thing which has worked perfectly and I have passed this along now to others and they also have confirmed 100% success.

It may not be new and indeed it could be documented on the ESU site but I can't see it. Procedure then as follows:

Place loco on track and read CV's, fairly simple that bit then, once the CV's are uploaded to view and the yellow transfer led goes out simply remove the power lead from the lokprogrammer. Adjust the CV's to your liking (long address change is just so easy) click on transfer new settings and the box comes up to ask if power is on and the port connected, simply reinsert the power lead to the LP and click next and 100% every time. It is in effect almost like a reboot procedure of the LP.

Anyway, if anyone else had this problem it works 100% for me and the other few that were experiencing this problem.

One for Richard if I may? I can see how simple it is to replace a horn sound or a brake squeal but how do you establish the sound in the first place, the sample triangle to listen even in looped mode seems a long way round it all, is there a simple method?

Your vista problems are more related to the USB driver than the software - a new version ofthe drivers usually fixes it.

Re "establishing the sound" - do you mean how to listen to or audition what the sound is? Terminology is important

If it is within a loksound file, the only way to do it is like you mention, as it cannot be opened within any other software however you can create a new non-esu wave file in any audio software to your satisfaction, audition it before opening the Lokprogrammer and then drag and drop it into your soundfile too of course - the lokprogrammer will do all the stereo to mono and downsampling for you.

The caveat there is of course it has to fit within the memory limits of the chip!

When you say things go to defaults, they go to the function and CV setup that has been saved into that particular soundfile.

If you want to keep the ones you create, then save that file under a different name so when U re-open it or reload it will keep the settings you put in.

Decoder reset will revert all loco drive CVs to default but will not mess with sound files normally.
