Have just got back home from our visit. We travelled by car and I thought it was easy - straight down the M4, turn left onto the north circular - big mistake, it took three quarters of an hour to get to Hangar Lane - I should have gone down the A40. Got a teeny weeny bit lost around Highgate but we had an A to Z in the car, probably from last year, and zig zagged our way up and down the hills of that part of London to arrive at AP.
The show itself was enjoyable. It was a bit crowded around the layouts in the main hall at first but the place seemed to thin out about by 2:30pm. I didn't buy too much - volumes 2 and 4 of the BTF collection and a book - "Rail Centres - Leeds and Bradford". There appears to be plenty of text in it, so I hope it will help my research on background to my layout.
I would tell you about the layouts except that I mislaid my guide right at the end - I think it's on the Booklaw stand.

Hornby have a Pendolino stationary on the corner of their layout. Bachmann were running both their sound equipped diesels. The chap running it had the Dynamis control hanging from one of those ID card things round his neck, so I guess it must be pretty light.
The scenic standards on the layouts was very high with a lot of narrow guage. Most layouts had trains running at reasonably short intervals.
The journey home was slightly shorter but again we got a little lost and ended up on the Euston road rather than the north circular. Navigating by sign post is not really an option.
If you're at a loose end tomorrow and can get to Alexandra Palace without too much fuss, I highly recommend a visit.
