No doubt a few of us will be picking up this model. Its my sort of thing and stocks are in short supply or non existant so if you are after one best to act now!

Totally amazing but this model is NOT listed on the Hornby website (or at least does not come up in a Hornby search)!

Just for info, those of you wishing to chip Lorna (that sounds tasteless!) will need a decoder with long leads - the R8215 fits in the smokebox easily but you need the long leads it comes with. Bachmann and GM type decoders will be a challenge to just plug in (although I have managed to fit a Gaugemaster "small" decoder in the firebox!).

The perfect example of why a 3/4 view would be much better - the gaps, the gaps.

Why re-release a model with tooling almost as old as the prototype. When I look at the current standard of models from Hornby I just cannot see the logic, except for the fact it will probably sell out quickly, which of course is good business.

Not surprising that you can't find it by name search, you may find if you search for anything from this years planned releases the story is the same. I posted on their forum about a month ago on that matter and got a reply to say they'd be updating it within a couple of weeks.
Incidentally have you done a search solely through hornby products? It brings up everything they've released over the last few years, no sub headings other than loco's, rolling stock etc and in a totally random order.
I wasn't overly impressed with the old site but I think someone got ripped off big time with the design on the new one.

I'd agree with that. I spent ages trying to find a couple of new items that some had said were now showing on their site and couldn't find them at all! I ended up trawling through everything under the loco and coach banners and still couldn't find them.

has "Lorna Doone" been released yet? i had a look through some internet suppliers (r2614) and none appear to have it listed

Realeased and Sold Out it seems. Although if you look at www.holtmodelrailways.co.uk you might be lucky

Hi Folks,

I bought Lorna Doone which I received two weeks ago and the Lord of the Isles. I chipped both with a Gaugemaster DCC21 decoder. I fitted this but cutting the socket PCB board back with a razor saw to the black wire going into the PCB Board and placed the chip vertically next to it of course seperated by insulation tape. There is just enough room to do this.

With regards to the Retro look It is a shame that no wire handrails have been used but otherwise I am quite happy with these two singles.

With the retro models enjoying the benefit of current Hornby production standards and improved packaging these are the finest examples of these models ever produced by Hornby.

Yet original examples still fetch big money in the secondary market!

"Made in China" may not have the same appeal as "Made in Britain" for collectors.

On the other hand "Made in China" is rapidly becoming a term used by auction houses in listings to indicate a Hornby model offered for sale in the secondary market of high quality!

So actually everybody is a winner!

Some things wrong here as I find myself agreeing with Gary. It's a pity thee aren't a few more in the range to encourage period modelling. I have one of the original lord of the Isles in my display cabinet it remains a cracking model. Again I totally agree with Gary made in China does in fact mean quality.

Hmmm, how about reviving the Rocket model and carriages? Would be a bit difficult to fit a DCC decoder on though!

Think I must have missed out on Lorna Doone now. A shame as I wanted one to double head with the new Lord of the Isles.

As of now Ontracks have one left. It may be the last one for sale on the web from a bona fide stockist.

It might even be 2000 out of 2000!
