QUOTE (Lancashire Fusilier @ 7 Aug 2008, 10:37) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Out of interest, given the fairly low cost of new motors these days (almost the same price as a decent decoder) is changing out motors in these projects a more viable option that perhaps we all give credit for?

Hi LF
I noticed a couple of weeks ago, someone selling a large quantity of Fleischmann motors on Feebay
(about 20) most complete with wheel sets for tender driven loco's
so it must be a viable option

The BR 94 that Marek has , must be a 4093 ( 94 956 ) is not that old , made between 1983-1993

I have converted much older Fleischmann Loco's , but as Richard says -not the best on slow speed on DCC -they may be bullit proof but thay do take a little fine tuning , but I have had some work very well even on default settings
with the TCS BEMF decoders I'm still amazed at how good , that BEMF is

I'm sure that I have a link somewhere to a company in Germany that produce complete new tender drive mechanism's for FLM loco's - if anyone wants it I'll try & find it.

I've just tried a loco on the programme track after fitting an M1 decoder ..... it runs fine without the body off but as soon as the body is on and on track it buzzes as a dc loco a little and the loco moves without power being applied i have tried it again without the body in case the decoder had blown on the drive function, all was well ...... any explanations as to why this should happen please ?

You have a short which sounds as though it is allowing one half of the DCC track power to reach the motor. Don't operate with body on as there is a chance of blowing the decoder. Check all the wiring, especially joints, and the decoder, for locations where putting on the body compresses these components, bringing them into contact; either with each other, or with uninsulated chassis or body, (particularly if these latter components are live to one rail).

Checked the install on the decoder i found the tiniest of nicks in the wire where the chassis had rubbed against it insulated as needed and now it runs .. well bit noisy for a Kato needs a run in i suspect sounds a bit tight gearing

Hi,

Finally had some time to try some of your advise;

I think I can say that mechanically loko and gear valves are ok.
Enginee take even current at DC (around 170mA)
However, brushes and comutator seem a bit doggy Decided to order new brushes and I have cleaned comutator using felt.

Once I get new brushes (in Poland it takes about two-three weeks) I will install them and do more tests.

First without any other changes and then I will try all CV setings described earlier.

Fingers crossed that it will work.

Regards
Marek
