Have been trying to contact Mackay Models in Paisley but they are not answering their phone. Does anyone know if they have moved or anything?

I've a feeling they closed down, having lost their founder in 2005 and the Lenz dealership more recently. However I can't find any confirmation of this. Their site is up (www.mackaymodels.co.uk) but on a quick look doesn't seem to have been updated for about a year.
QUOTE and the Lenz dealership more recently

I think it is more accurate to say that Mackay's were Lenz distributor's in the UK but are no longer appear as such on the Lenz English language website. They may still be dealers.

They were still updating the site on 22nd September this year.

That's actually 22 September 2007
QUOTE I thought they had ceased trading?

I have spent some time searching on line with Google and Yahoo and I haven't turned up anything to suggest that this is the case.

Maybe they're closed on Tuesdays?

see here.
As far as im aware there still trading. I was at their store only a couple of months ago and everything was going well at the store. I was also trying to get a job there and nothing was mentioned about the company possibly closing down or in financial trouble.

They might show up at the Greenock Model Railway Show. If they do I'll let you guys know.

Please do as there seems to be a bit of uncertainty.

Hello all,

I am new to this forum, hence the name. I have personally looked through the windows of Mackays shop from the rear of the premises and can tell you that the premises are empty. The last time i was in the shop Alan had said that he was winding up the business possibly before the end of September 2008. It appears that this has happened. I have attended several shows recently and there has been no presence from Mackays. If i meet any of the staff and have this confirmed I will post the info on this forum. Some good news from the Paisley area is the formation of a new shop in the shape of Trains on Time. This business has been set up in a small unit in the industrial estate on Backsneddon area near to the Halfords store on the one way system. The owner has posted directions on his website. (www.trainsontime.co.uk) Check the place out guys, cheap as chips as some would say. Stockists of Bachmann, Hornby, Heljan, and along with a few other popular companies, this store is devoted purely to Model Railways and train sets for the younger enthusiast. DCC Ready locos for less then £16.00 and starter sets from £35.00 make the place well worth checking out. I find that, when buying, a better deal can be had by phoning the shop up and chatting to them, or better still go in and see them. Friendly bunch and always pleased to see customers at any time of the day. One draw back. Shop is closed Saturday and Sunday. Open Week days only. Still, can'y have everything I suppose. Cheers people.

Slightly off topic as the OP was about Mackays!
Just to confirm what Jim has said.

Very true!

I have spoken to Daniel in the shop a number of times on the phone.
I actually bought all of my Tomix range of N-gauge Thomas & Friends locos from him.
Excellent service and very quick delivery!

Cheers

Copied this link from a posting on RMWeb - it would appear that a liquidator has been appointed

Just read through the topic again and see that Edwin has already posted this link - apologies for duplication
Its a real shame as Mackays , particularly when they were really Mackays were extremely helpful . informative and prompt with any requests.
Not really what I can say about their replacement on the Lenz front A&H models as I have emailed them 3 times and they have not replied.

Agree that it is a shame about anyone who goes out of business although I suspect that there may be more on the way in current circumstances.

As for A&H they were first class in dealing with my queries and then processing my Lenz upgrade which was done and returned lightning fast.

Are you certain that your e-mails have been received? I have had the situation where I wondered if a dealer had seen my response, a phone call confirmed they hadn't been received and that a gremlin in the server was blocking e-mails to his address. I have also had e-mails from my Yahoo account just disappear into the digital ether so I am always loath to criticise anyone who has not responded to e-mails unless I have delivery confirmation.

With the amount of Spam circulating these days, I don't think anyone can assume that their emails have been delivered and not got trapped in a Spam filter.

Sadly so true - we have had to set our spam filters so high that we suspect that some emails get trapped, but, as in most things we have to set a compromise.

Still, there's alway's the good old fashioned fax - most PC's (AFAIK) have a fax facility.
