I thoought this was a wind up at first but it seems its true.

in many cases there has been a massive increase in prices. sometimes nearly doubled.

a fiver for a wheel!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A standard coach axle is now about £2.50

I have to say i find this all very dissapointing. items that i had taken for granted are now expensive items and i have to now look very seriously at the alternatives.

But what are the alternatives?

Ultrascale are very fine and the waiting time is over 6 months. No steam loco drivers

Sharman are off the market and likely to stay that way

Gibson is winding down to part time production from the end of the year

Who else makes loco drivers????

For rolling stock I suppose you have Hornby packs, InterCity Models, Replica and Bachmann

i am not sure who makes them but i have seen plastic centred wheels with a standard romford square axle fitting. i think the range is very limited but mabye that will change.

To wheel a pacific is now getting on for £50!! its crazy. i dont mind paying high prices but i know when i am getting taken for a ride.

mabye this situation will give Gibson some extra enthusiasm.

I have always used romford but i am going to be doing some experiments over the next few months.
