A bit more involved: GFN basis with custom boiler and various Weinert parts. It is a shame that GFN do not extend their DR programme beyond their BR22 and produce Reko BR03's and 41's. The advantage of customising as opposed to buying items from Crottendorf or MMK is not only cost, the donor models tend to run reliably and use normal coupling systems.

***OK - I'm hooked. I really like the look of this one a lot.
Can you please expand on the supplier comments - how are they to deal with, what do they supply and to what quality - Wiernart I know but GFN, Crottendorff and MMK I do not. I'd reallly appreciate the widening of my knowledge here!

The point of the thread is not to provide a shopping list for those with more money than skill but to show that home produced conversions are possible, indeed preferable than just reaching for the cheque book/credit card.

Lovely lovely lovely, I had really never thought of using the Revell kit as the basis for anything. Truly magnificent.

Something different. A pair of Schicht Dostos which look pretty good with flush glazing and very accurate dimensions in the late 60's.

The improvements needed were to replace the wheels with Markit 9mm discs on 24,5mm axles, repaint the interior rattlecan grey with Rexine red seats, replace the buffers with sprung Oleos, fit Kadee 41's to the bogies.

They run beautifully and look better than any modern version from Sachsenmodelle. Unfortunately they are in high demand, do not expect to pay less than 40EUR for a good original Ep3 set. I bought mine with my pocket money but now I am retired, a real long term love affair.

Thanks for showing us your work so far 72C. Very impressive.

I think there has been a bit of a misunderstanding here guys. Lets take a step back and start again.

Richard is a very good modeller, I've seen some his work and it is very good. The gallery pictures are not under Richards name I think Arethusa uploaded them for him. It looks to me that Richard was interested in the suppliers of detailing parts rather than buying MicroMetakit models. While I'm sure he could afford it, I think he would prefer to build models of this calibre himself.

There's some very high standard modelling on this thread, lets not allow a misunderstanding to get in the way of sharing our knowledge and skills.

Very impressive, I particularly liked the Hoffman kiln. There was one of the last examples in the UK at the South Western Pottery in Poole.

I was just having a bit of a browse through the Weinert catalogue and noted that they have the option of RP25 wheels. These may be what you are looking for Richard.

Hi 72C

Very nice work, the loco's look superb and I do love the effect in your 3rd photo with the grass. It looks like it was mowed about 3 weeks ago with a couple of spots missed. Outstanding! I think you have certainly captured the effect here.

I do feel that some comments were unnecessarily called for. DWB was only trying to point out what Richard was looking for and help. I know Richard (we live in the same town) and he is to say the least, an inspiration to all of us. This is one of the most helpful guys you will ever ever come across.

I think the spirit of this forum is about helping fellow modelers and enjoying we all have to offer. We also exchange info on here, where to buy, new ideas etc. Thats what its about.

I, as the rest of the forum would love to see more of your work.

Once again 72C magnificent kit building.
