I cannot claim the credit for this particular example except I sourced the bits: Revell BR43 kit, Roco DR BR44, BR50 wheels etc. however I hope it proves that some modellers of German outline are prepared to cut n'shut to get the right model. If there is any interest, there are a few more unique conversions.

A bit more involved: GFN basis with custom boiler and various Weinert parts. It is a shame that GFN do not extend their DR programme beyond their BR22 and produce Reko BR03's and 41's. The advantage of customising as opposed to buying items from Crottendorf or MMK is not only cost, the donor models tend to run reliably and use normal coupling systems.

The point of the thread is not to provide a shopping list for those with more money than skill but to show that home produced conversions are possible, indeed preferable than just reaching for the cheque book/credit card.

Something different. A pair of Schicht Dostos which look pretty good with flush glazing and very accurate dimensions in the late 60's.

The improvements needed were to replace the wheels with Markit 9mm discs on 24,5mm axles, repaint the interior rattlecan grey with Rexine red seats, replace the buffers with sprung Oleos, fit Kadee 41's to the bogies.

They run beautifully and look better than any modern version from Sachsenmodelle. Unfortunately they are in high demand, do not expect to pay less than 40EUR for a good original Ep3 set. I bought mine with my pocket money but now I am retired, a real long term love affair.

Very impressive, I particularly liked the Hoffman kiln. There was one of the last examples in the UK at the South Western Pottery in Poole.
