Model Rail editor Chris Leigh question

I was browsing through some vintage Hornby catalogues to check out some accessories and spotted a modeller in the 1977 catalogue making the main line station kit that looks an aweful lot like Model Rail editor Chris Leigh with very long hair. Is this appearance one of Chris's claims to fame I wonder?

I will have to ask Chris at the Warley show. Some of you reading this may beat me too it!

Do any of you know of any celebreties that have made it into the Hornby catalogues?

There is a man in one of the later catalogues making baseboards that looks like a youthful Simon Kohler.

Not having the 1977 catalogue, I cannot comment but I do have a copy of the 1979 25th Edition of Hornby Railways catalogue & on Page 17 - Layout Extensions is a gentleman that those in the UK may know.

I like the 1977 guy´s hairstyle. Might want to copy it; would you advise me to ask my girlfriend first, or should I just go for it?

Yes, the Brillo pad look. Yes go for it but please post some pictures.

Looking for another topic reminded me of this one.

Spoke with Chris Leigh at the NEC show and he could not recall doing a special shoot for Hornby during the 1970's but he could recall having some shots taken of him working on a project that could have got into the hands of Hornby.

Chris did confirm that somebody "currently employed by Hornby" did make an appearance in the Hornby catalogues.

Completely forgot to discuss this with the other suspect however there will be further opportunities.

I have the station in the pic from the '77 catologe, always wandered were it came from.

It looked too european when I got it so did a little 'upgrades' to make it look more english, then scratch built a making building for the opposite platform, was going to kit bash a hornby water tower to, never did finish the scratch build but its still in a box somewhere as it would look funny on Milldale

I've just been looking at those 70's Hornby catalogue images again and a few things crossed my mind. Firstly the way father and son are cluttering up the baseboard with tools amd models I would be surprised if they ever finished building it. Oh, and exactly what is he trying to drill with a bit that size while his son appears to be attempting to cut his own fingers off? I do however still have a much modified and detailed version of the featured signal box which will eventually appear on Nether Sennet.

The "Hornby" construction kits are definetely sourced from a continental manufacturer, but is any one able to say which one? My first thought was Pola (before they were swallowed into Faller)

**Definately from Pola. I had that station and the quirky little coal bins with crane under the Pola Brand many, many years ago.

The Hornby kits from the 1970's were manufactured by Pola.

Today they are very collectable in the right condition selling for 10 times or more their original price if found and complete.
