Multimaus

In recent months my Multimaus set-up has become less reliable but I suspect that my use of a Maerklin 5A power supply may be the issue.

The system often shows an Err 13 error but will reset if I use Roco's own power supply.

This prompts two questions:

1. Why is this happening and how can I stop it?

2. Is there a suitable DCC set-up to replace the Multimaus?

I still wish to retain the Roco accessory modules but I do not want to use Lenz as I dislike the LH100 and LH90 because I find them non-intuitive when used on a small intensive shunting layout.

Is there a simple, DCC set-up that uses a handheld with full range rotary speed control (not centre-off) and easy to use turnout control that will work with my existing system?

Thank you

Hi 72C

I use a MultiMAUS myself

ERR 13 is "no master controller found"

You may have a dodgy cable or connection The Master control uses all 6 connections in the RJ12 plug
The slave uses only 4

I use the MultiMAUS through its own system with a Laptop powersupply without any problems ( about 14.5 v measured at the rails)

I also use the MultiMAUS with a Lenz LZV100 (the command station type you get with set90 or set100)
Then you get the ability to read CVs

I agree with you about the LH90 and LH100 the MultiMAUS is much easier to use

Invest in a New Roco Curly cable (like telephone cable) , the flat straight cables are prone to wire breakage after a time ( I personally have had only one fail)

I'm waiting for the MultiMAUS Pro to be released although I will not be in any rush to buy

Hope this Helps

Hi Tim,

have you had a look at the DCC systems chart above. Digitrax may be your best bet for the rotary knob however I'm not sure about compatability with the Roco accessory modules.

Cheers

*** I'd look at the NCE PowerCab - it has full rotary plus PB speed control, and is very instinctive and easy to use, yet has very full functionality compared to most larger systems - all for appx GBP100. It will control the Roco accessory modules and has a clean upgrade path with no wastage if you want a full high power system later. Turnout control is easy = press accessory button, choose accessory number, press enter....

everything is in the box when U buy it.

Hi Tim

Did you try a different cable ?

Zmil,

All is well. I replaced the Maerklin 5A transformer with Roco's own that came with my spare Multimaus set (the original had died which was why I used the Maerklin unit)

No further power outs and the loco decoders don't get too unhappy. I also added a power limiter from Arnold's, the guy who sells Zimo, it has a dial-up power regulator and a huge heat-sink.

The system seems a lot happier (and so do I)

Glad you got it sorted Tim
