Thought I would start a thread on my new layout. Although not that new, nothing much has happened for a while and what has was more appropriate within the signalling area of this forum. To catch up on my signalling and what turned out to be track alterations can be seen here.

Since returning from University I decided to hit straight into the layout. I changed all the track work as per the changes discussed in the signalling thread...

I then started to add fascia panels to the front of the layout baseboards to tidy it up and hide the large number of cables appearing below.

I also fitted my Lenz extension plate into the fascia.

I also got fed up with moving my Ikea clip on light around and decided to fit and wire in some spot lights to my very useful beams! This ensures I can see all hours of the day! With such a big room its very difficult to get a decent light to work under.

I then painted it in brown paint, just one coat for the moment as I will do a top coat when the layout scenery has been finished along the front edge.

A control panel was made to house all my electronic boxes. Top left is the Lenz unit, to the right is a hand built DC twin shuttle controller which I may use on a future extension separated from my DCC sections. The black switch box is a 12V outlet for accessory lighting also hand built. This will supply power for my signals, housing lights and street lights etc. The fused switch on the left is a mains supply switch for all the equipment above. This saves scrambling under to the socket. The white switch is for the over layout spotlights.

I then started to work on construction of the main bridge across the layout to break up the station from the DMU servicing yards. The bridge was constructed using Scalescenes Bridge Abutments, and the retaining wall was scratch built using Scalescene papers.
I then built up the bank with card strips, applied mod roc and then a final coat of interior plaster. This was then painted brown and flocks added in the usual way.

Updates will be few and far between as I have unfortunately got to go back to University on Sunday! Only 11 Weeks and then I am basically finished for the year so lots more to come then hopefully.

Yeh I thought that when I put them up and turned them on! I was a bit worried, however after being on for a long time they don't seem to heat up the plasterboard anywhere near as much as my recessed ceiling lights elsewhere!
I had a few spare hours today so decided to get building the arched retaining wall that is going to create part of the back scene on the section running over the top of my window. Pictures below show it in place. I am very pleased with the Scalescene kits, they are more demanding to build but are so easy to alter and scratch build alongside. Any comments appreciated!

Hi to everyone that has written... a long time ago! I haven't done much to this layout at all as I was finding my Architecture degree was taking its toll! I have also been spending much of my spare time volunteering at my local museum. Westonzoyland Pumping Station in Somerset. www.wzlet.org and driving the two 2ft narrow gauge locos there! I have also started playing with some smaller projects in a larger scale! (O-16.5) whilst at uni. I will post some images of these in the right section soon.

Yes all the walls and bridge supports are scalescenes. I find them very realistic and cost effective. Working with paper and card suits me as this is all I model with in Architecture. The only problem I am having is finding a suitable matt finish varnish that doesn't cause the print to fade or blur and stops any later glues (pva etc) affecting later.

Yes the track was taken from the minories scheme. I then heavily adapted it, and then re-adapted it for signalling (look for my signalling thread).

I am going to get back to my barn layout soon now I have some inspiration from searching this forum! Hopefully i can update soon!

Ive been doing a few bits over christmas holidays that I will share with you. Not as much as I had hoped, been spending to much time working on projects at Westonzoyland Pumping Station.

Ive started on the strategy of work from the back to the front. Purchased a couple of superquick rear half relief terraced houses and modified them slightly for the area I had. Ive knocked up a backscene board, this will be covered in a Photoshoped sky scene before the buildings are attached down. I will be adding lighting as well. The street surface has been glued down. The top of the Retaining wall and the metal fencing that sits on top.

The houses need ratio guttering kits added, the houses need sectioning off within ready for lights. And a few curtains and blinds put up! The back street will have a few bits of rubbish and some people hanging around.

Two more of these kits to make before I can finish it off. Then a session of planting weeds will be needed.
