***Seven! Please don't take this the wrong way but thats a lot of fried chips! I think I'd be calling you to "Please explain" before I replaced them!

Do you really always check things like proper brush isolation before you add the decoder??

Hi Richard,

Yes 7 decoders it was in the early days of fitting them to my collection of stock, i know at one of them went on the pcb 66 i did, considering i have converted over 40 locos it works out not too bad as i said i was learning and have learnt by mistakes.

Hi All
Rather than start a new thread I thought I'd dig this one out.
First fried decoder today......curses.
Digitrax dz123ps installed in a Bachmann A1, weird thing it blew what looks to be a diode(it's a tiny little component..well it is now) while starting on dc control, it had been working reliably for months.
worst thing was I thought I'd fitted a Hornby R8215 "exploder" opened up the loco after seeing the telltale smoke and thought "oh ####@@@%%". never had a Digitrax decoder do that before, also had my K3 and A4 fitted with same decoder running in the same session, no problems with those two.
Here's the kicker, so far 1 blown digitrax out of 12, all 8 R8215 still going strong........there's something funny going on here???

Cheers

Hi

Thought I had fried a loksound the other day on my NRM Scotsman. Reset it and disconnected my smoke generators which also had a pre heater so pulling a fair few mA. Put in a relay to control smoke generators and pre heater. Fried the relay on testing. May have being faulty who knows but before you ask I had 12v dc going across the coil and switching was correct.

Function to control coil and generators wired directly to tracks via relay.

My point goes to show the loksound is fairly tough!
