My Layout in the shed update

Hi everyone here is the first update for this year in 2009.

These next few pictures are just to keep you all updated with how my layout is going!.
Please don't be shy all comments are welcome.

Hi Paul. My compliments on your excellent shed layout and particularly the Royal Scot video. You certainly seem to have eliminated any unwanted track noise.

If I might make a small suggestion, however, how about moving the police box and continuing the disused track across the road with the addition of a redundant level crossing. You might have to move the other buildings a tad to the right though so I'm not sure if it is possible or not. A few bushes alongside the track and a photo backdrop of the track disappearing into the distance would help to create the illusion. Just a thought and in no way intended as a criticism.

The padlock might be great, but that bolt could be pried off in a couple of minutes, especially as it has 4 screws on the outside.

If you looked closely enough my friend you would see that in fact there are BOLTS holding the Bolt on and the latch part

Many thanks for your kind words my friend. I do like your 'suggestion' but I'm not sure if it would work as the road is slightly higher than the track!

I will have to have a look at it and see what can be done and if I feel I could do it justice.

In my recent experience, model railway equipment is a very long way down the list of desirable, resalable items. Be sure to lock up your lap tops, mobile phones and compact digital cameras. It seems anything at all specialised is not of interest to the average burglar or house breaker. Of course "firms" who do whole house jobs are a different matter but I still wonder would they want model railway kit?

I'd still have a good lock on the door. It will act as a deterrent.

I will take sone pics today and post the plans asap . I began work on my shed over two years ago but stopped because real life got in the way. After going to the Model Rail Scotland exhibition my eagerness to continue was restored so for about the last 4 weeks I have been clearing out anything dumped in there (Ruthless I was - never like to throw anything away). and now it's returning to a good environment.

My shed is 20'x 10' on the outside but I've made it into two rooms - front room being my workshop where I do my DIY and the back room where my layout is.

Although going in after so long I found it quite damp, I had insulated and plaster boarded the railway room but even so it has taken a few weeks to get the damp out of it.

How do you find it out there? With a small convecter heater I find mine quite cosy. Although the wife thinks it needs a woman's touch. It's quite good because she has a real phobia about spiders of which there are many in this area so she doesn't come in much! He-he!

My shed is very cosy with the fire on. I am also kucky in the fact that not only my wife comes and brings me coffee/tea and biscuits but she also has even made the vegatable patch full of veggies. She is also very impressed with my layout which does give me a great boost (damn! I knew I shouldn't have mentioned chocolate, I have to go now and have some)

They are presently stored in the spare room waiting for the basebords to be built. It is dry and the temp is fairly stable. Perhaps its more down to the modeller than the model?

Tea and biscuits Eh - Lucky Man Indeed.

My wife says she's doing me a favour not bringing me in any biscuits

but she does bring me tea or coffee - she just leaves it a shelf at the front and then runs away.

i just joined this forum to help me learn about railway modelling so one day i can start my own layout, but this layout has already given me so much inspiration to get started, i love class 37's and the video makes your layotu look massive yet it's only in a small space,

Thank you for your very kind words. It is very heart warming to know that I have given someone else Inspiration to start a layout. Although most modellers like myself model layouts etc you our own tastes etc it is still great to hear other people appreciate my efforts.

I'm sure you probably can tell I rather like class 37's hence my username!

Hi Paul,looking good,I've yet to make a start on my garden branch... the house and garden is over two hundred years old so care must be taken when doing anything out there...(what a poor excuse for lazyness)

I've bought track etc... so no excuses now! also bought a bbq last week so thats a start.

I am assuming you mean the big roll of blue kitchen roll type stuff!!

WOW that's also amazing that you come from Shrewsbury! I have lived there since 1977 until moving to B/ham to be with my wife. Would love to know whereabouts you live in Shrewsbury but perhaps you could PM me and let me know? I know Shrewsbury like the back of my hand and will be returning to that great town as soon as the step- daughter has left home

"Kimwipe" is the big blue roll of kitchen towel type stuff! I got it from my best mate who works in a nursing home.

Allright then!!!

I only call it blue roll aswell actually Alan, It was from another forum member not too many posts up from here that referred to it as "kimwipe".
Still it is rather good stuff.
