I have been informed by my sister who saw todays episode of neighbours at lunchtime that it contains a model railway theme. Apparently it shows the hobby in a relitavly positive light, apart from dressing everyone up in "silly Costumes". I will watch it myself tonight and report back how enjoyable/painful it is!

Rob

PS she also mentioned something about a "LMS F Stain train"....Odds on that was a Stanier 8F then?

Just watched it, not too badly handled. Nice bit of Hornby Dublo stuff there. Nice to get some good press without us being portrayed as anoraks.
You know they film a lot of Neighbours scenes in my street. I had a notice this week that they were filming a few doors down from me. If only they had known, they could have had my layout to include in their show.

The street shown at the begining of the show is about a mile from where I live, and another bit of trivia, probably the best television ever produced in Australia, Prisoner Cell Block H was filmed about half a mile away from where I live.

And the closest I can get is that they showed my house in the day trip to Margate Only Fools and Horses special - I've still got a picture of Del and Rodney leaning on my gatepost.

It wasnt too bad but still could have been better.

As for not portraying us as anoracks, - its early yet!

i hated it when they refered to an 8F as "THE LMS"
They dont realise its like saying "WOW look dad its THE ford" or "hay look its THE Australian car" it just didnt make sence.

Every time i see something like this crop up my heart sinks for all the child enthusiasts in the hobby that are not going to be hearing about this on the playground. they are going to be getting very tired of it very soon. i remember very much what that was like.

But still it could have been worse.

they really should have had Neil as a consultant!

Is that the one you visit on "The Neighbours bus tour"? If so, then my younger son was down your way about this time last year when he was "doing" NZ, Fiji and Australia during his self financed gap year.

Thats the one although I haven't actually been on the bus tour. I tend to take visitors round there in my car. It's called Pin Oak Court I beleive.
It's sad life you lead mate if the best you can do is watch Neighbours. I'll have to send you a recovery DVD

I don't watch it, I think it's utter bollocks. I do admit to following Prisoner cell block H though. There didn't used to be that much on TV after midnight in the nineties.

Hello 80 Class!

If it's the same layout as I saw a couple of days ago - it's a small, 3 rail Dublo layout with a Stanier 8f - repainted/lettered into LMS livery.

It's pretty comprehensive and contains a 2 rail Goods Yard as well as many standard 3 rail Accessories.

I wish I could run my Dublo outside - Scottish weather does not permit such indulgences!

Best Wishes,

Caley Tank 950
Well we don't get Neighbours in Thailand... happy to say, but having said that I did see a layout last night on 'Monarch of the Glen' which is being shown on BBC Entertainment channel. Richard Briers was 'playing with it' and it was an 'O' gauge, looked like an old Hornby or Triang set... reminding me of my childhood as I had a clockwork Hornby goods set as a small boy (or it my dad get it for himself???). However, what struck me was the great array of accessories, railway buildings, houses, signals, bridges etc... looked really good, but it was only on for a matter of seconds.

However, the story line went that the old 'getting senile' man would have his 'toys' confiscated. Can't say I enjoyed that bit!
