Hello, thought I'd join up after gleaning some useful info from previous postings.
I have been railway modelling for over 40 years now and build stuff in American HO and both OO and HO scales in British outline (yes there is such a thing as British HO)!
If no one makes a particular loco or item of rolling stock I really want then I build it myself either by modifying RTR, kit bashing or failing that then scratch building.
I use Z21 and Prodigy Advance for control and sound decoders from many different manufacturers going back to the beginning of DCC sound on US produced models in the early 2000s.
Kind regards and merry Christmas

Welcome Tim. I hope that you get into the spirit of things on this forum. Just start up a topic for some lively responses or add a comment to other member's threads.

Good to see a GER enthusiast joining us.

Best regards .................. Greyvoices (alias John)
I use Z21 as well (black version) not quite as avant garde as yourself but UK OO as most of us on here are but welcome and hope you pitch in as much as you can.
Hi, likewise the black version of Z21. Never got round to using it for programming because the Prodigy is so easy to program with. Use it for Driving and point control.
What 'flavour' of OO do you model? Do you use sound decoders?
Tim
Hi there, yes I program using the Z21, have a prog track which I also use for wheel cleaning, with hundreds of locos I use the 4 digit codes, I often code on the ESU decoder device to code them up
and here is the prog track to the right
As to sound I tried this but simply does not sound correct on express locos esp Gresley 3 cyl types and as I run 8 circuits I decided it would be too much to have them all sound and anyway I play period music instead, always very fond of the Tornados etc.
As to the big model it is 1962 on a ficticious GCR avoiding line joint with the GWR whilst the main line is the Central Lines Committee GCR joint with the Midland and the Great Northern. (sort of based on the Cheshire Lines)

I also have a DC only OO9 Lynton and Minehead Railway a Col Stevens effort dates for mid May 1926 (the busiest passenger traffic week in British public transport history)

Part of the OO9 layout
Great stuff, interesting pics and I also have an interest in 'period' music....
Likewise with loco numbers running into 3 digits I also use 4 digit addresses. The Prodogy has an interchangeable output for prog track or POM, one I have tested the install on the prog track I then program 'on the main' as this is necessary for setting up sound files. I can understand what you mean about express steam but the best chips are now pretty good at higher speeds for realistic sound. It is best to have all the locos at a lowish level so that it all does not get overpowering and it is best practice to shut off stuff that is not running, especially diesels.
I will see if I can dig out a couple of pics of my micro layout, the big one is still just plans at the moment....
Cheers
Tim
Great stuff, here should be the main station on the oo layout

part of an over busy main station

and looking the other way

Lots going on there, and some interesting trams sitting on the platform.... I have a side interest in London trams and trolleys....and buses.....
Found some pics of my Temple Mills layout showing opposite ends of my timescale, roughly 1948 to 1974 although I have a few locos in early 80's finish too.

Nice O1 there my father worked on the section at Gorton that did the rebuilds as a premium apprentice and a very good effort they were too.

It's always been a good performer. I seem to have a thing for 2-8-0's, they have just accumulated over the years... 8F, 28xx, WD, O1, O2, O4.... they all run well in fact.
