Hello, my name is Dave, I am 64 years old, Married and live in Queensland the hotter part of Australia.

I have been interested in trains all my life with many childhood visits to New Street Station Birmingham, of course to collect train numbers, ahh still dreaming about those Jubilee, Scot and Patriot engines.

My first layout was based on a Hornby 3 rail Dutchess of Atholl loco, aged 12, I have built a few layouts since mainly HO and N Gauge but never got very far with them, mainly due to family commitments.

My current layout which I have called Boulder Valley is what I call a Hotch Potch Layout, freelance all the way, set sometime in the 60s at an unknown location that came straight out of my head.

I think my problem is I like so much model railway equipment that I did not want to get tied into any particular thing, this of course gives me the freedom to do and run what I please, I find that enhances the fun aspect of the hobby for me.

Anyone wishing to take a look at the layout the link is bellow, thank you.

I model in 00 - GWR/WR as a general guide but not a rivet counter.
I am sure you will learn a lot from this Forum in many things.

Hi Ron, thanks for the welcome, great railway to build the GWR, saw many Halls and Castles as a young boy, travelled behind King James to London.

Hi Neil, thanks for the welcome, just gotta love that AD60, paid a visit to Dorrigo last year just to photograph the beast.

OK on being in Melbourne, my home town, grew up in Glen Waverley and lived in Rye for 20+ years, now in Brisbane, the price you pay for marrying a Queenslander.

QUOTE (goedel @ 5 Nov 2007, 07:09) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Hello Dave,

Welcome to the MRF, I hope you find it useful. I like the bright colours on your layout and the painted backdrop. Do you use analogue or digital control? Will you be making the trees for your forest yourself or buying them ready made? I always think the shop bought ones can look a bit too much like lego trees i.e. plastic!

Hi There Gödel, thanks for the welcome also for checking out the website, I am running DC only, I am using about 200 Heki Fir trees for my forest, also including a sawmill, after that I will probably make my own or maybe use Woodland Scenics formers, I dont like the artificial looking trees either.
QUOTE (BRITHO @ 6 Nov 2007, 03:29) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Hi Dave, damn name's getting far too common! welcome to the forum. I had a quick look at your site and it certainly looks like you're enjoying yourself - and that's what matters!

Hope you enjoy your visits here and any questions just ask - eventually you should get the answer you were looking for - well we do have a tendency to go off topic every so often.

Regards

Thanks for the welcome Dave also for looking at the layout.

It wouldnt be a model forum if it didnt go off topic every now and then.

I don't know how far away from the Gold Coast you are but if you're ever down here contact me and I'll arrange a visit to our club. We have two N layouts operating as well as G, O/On30 and 00/H0. I'm a former Secretary and now newsletter editor.

The same goes to anyone else from this forum - and I do mean anybody.

Hi there Oz, thanks for the reply, I am not to far from the Coast, living in Wellington Point near Cleveland, may take you up on the offer of a club visit one day, I have a Sister in Law living in South Tweed.
