Hi everyone, i'm Rik and as you may have guessed new to the forum. I model in 4mm scale and prefer the modern scene; currently i'm working on two projects:

1. a small shelf layout / diaroma that is literally built on an old shelf! I was demolishing an old bookcase and was loathe to throw out perfectly good material! The trackplan consists of two terminating sidings that enter via the traditional road overbridge, with cassetes providing the storage facilites off scene. This project has mainly been about polishing up on my modelling skills before attempting my 10' x 1' layout, in addition to acting as a programming track for DCC purposes.

2. an end to end layout (10' x 1') with additional storage cassettes / 'fiddle yard' depending on the space i have available. It is constructed on two 5' x 1' boards and is still at the planning stage, although i have something in mind (literally) for this one. It will be modern image and DCC controlled as electrics and wiring are not my favourite pastime!

Unfortunately space is at a premium, as is my finacee's tolerance of modelling, hence the small size of my layouts.

I hope everyone has a happy new year,
Rik

Welcome Rik. Bookcase layout can be challenging and fun to build due to the limited space. I'd be interested in see a few of your layout plans...
Hi Rick
and hello from another newbie, I joined on 29th dec ,allready had contact with a few on here and are very helpfull, I actually work for (network rail) as a signal engineering instructor and as I stated to the others, if you have any queries re signalling I will be happy to oblige if possible.

Once again , welcome aboard.

Start of as you mean to go on!

Seriously welcome and as with most things in life it's a question of balance.

Thanks, i might well take you up on that offer! The shelf layout that i'm currently finishing off is so simple it doesn't require any signalling, the 10' x 1' layout will be based primarily around a yard / depot so there might be scope for some in there. Depending on what track plan i go for in the end i might incorporate some shunting signals (if appropriate) and a signal controlling the exit from the yard to the 'rest of the world'. I'll put a plan up once i make up my mind!

Cheers

I'll try and upload some fairly soon; the 'big' layout i suppose will still be shelf like in that it will only be a foot wide. I have some plans on paper but i'll try and scan them or maybe draw up on the computer.

The little recycled layout is about 2 feet long and consists of two sidings, posting a picture is better than describing it so i'll try and put that up to!

Cheers for saying Hi,

Rik
For anyone interested, i'll be posting some pics of my shelf layout in the next week or so. I've been quite busy at work at the moment.

Anyway, my question is: are there ANY modellers in Mid-Argyll? Or anywhere in the west highlands!?

Cheers,

Rik
