New models in OO announced from Q4 2019

'Tis a little arbitrary, but to prevent the first such round up becoming a bloated mess, how about another for everything announced from
the start of Q4 2019 until end Q3 2020? We have an entry!

Hattons, with a range of generic 4 and 6 wheel coaches, in all the liveries under the sun (almost). I can see these being both liked and
derided. Excellent for those who want RTR 'Victorian' coaches, no use for those who want specific models.

Interestingly, in their possible train formations publicity, two of the steam locos are not available RTR: the beautiful SECR D class, and
the well known LNWR Precedent 2-4-0. Do Hattons hint here at items that may emerge in OO; and possibly from sources other than
Hattons, given that they have ranged fairly widely among other manufacturer's ranges for the suggested traction?

QUOTE (butler-henderson @ 7 Nov 2020, 19:46) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>... a class 10 of which none survive which does to me seem a strange choice as the ability to offer a loco in possibly numerous liveries / names carried by preserved examples obviously does not apply.
I can see two leading possibilities by way of reasons: the business owners simply like the subject and feel it will appeal to their target customer base; and with the subject somewhat obscure and limited in livery choices, that makes it unlikely to have an unfortunate duplication with a competitor?
I think an L&YR claddy tank would have more appeal, but then again what do I know. I can only suppose they saw the appeal of the Peckett W4 and thought that industrial locos would do well and after all they could be anywhere so no regional specialisation.
There a clear market been identified for industrials by the existing offering by Hornby and Hattons. In addition there is a decreasing number of Big 4 / BR locos that have not been made which would sell in any number, and equally a number already made which seem to fill up bargain lists. I would expect Bachmann once they have cleared their backlog (2025?) will come up with an industrial or two,
Although announced far earlier than the start date of this thread, it is evident that the Bachmann 94xx is produced and 'at sea' as review samples have been made available. It appears Bachmann may be foillowing Hornby's lead, largely metal body construction; which I welcome if true.

I was surprised how long it took the manufacturers to get around to industrials made to 'current standard', but this has to tell us something; and I suspect this is that our manufacturers weren't overly confident of their sales potential vs that of the railway companies and 'BR and after' traction.

Has gone well now it has been tried, and industrial steam is at five (?), and another recently announced, and the count must be similar in diesels? Now, what sort of legs has this category got? That question needs more offerings to be produced to test it. An obvious candidate in the steam group has to be the Neilson 0-4-0ST, a design that was effectively a standard in Scotland by its adoption by both the CR and NBR; and only the appalling Hornby 'Smokey Joe' as its competitor. That aside I don't know enough about the UK's industrial loco fleet to pick 'winners', though a passing thought would be the famous Burton on Trent breweries railway as a themed location for production of a group of industrial locos.

And how long before a manufacturer thinks to offer a crane loco, or a fireless type? Gotta work all the angles!

And also: LNWR Precedent 2-4-0 or 'Jumbo', manufactured by Bachmann to a commission by Locomotion (NRM) and Rails of Sheffield. Photographs of what appear to be fully finished models accompany this announcement, so presumably not too long a wait for delivery. Again with diecast loco body, a very good idea for a small tender loco, and repeating the optional traction tyre fitted wheelset in the box for any owner wishing to fit it.

This was one of two locos not then available RTR featured in Hattons' illustrations of the trains that might be formed from their announced 'Genesis' range of four and six wheeled coaches, the other being the SECR D class 4-4-0, also coming from Locomotion and Rails of Sheffield.

Those are livery samples - they are expected in around 6 months; at the same production stage currently are the V2, CR812 (for Rails) and 410. Somewhere on the sea are the 20/3, 45/0, MR 1P and 94xx while the toilet window modified 150/2 is in production. All according to the current Collectors Club magazine.
The V2 for me, despite the attractions of the LNWR's little rocket ship!
It appears that Dapol's GWR mogul is available, DCC ready versions only; as the DCC fitted and sound options are equipped with decoders by Dapol in the UK, thus incurring some delay before they are with retailers.

I am interested in this specimen's loco to tender 'plug in' connector's functioning, as this arrangement will also be used on the D class 4-4-0 Dapol are producing for Rails: so anyone here purchasing the mogul and prepared to evaluate and comment?
Hi Just received my Dapol 43xx DCC Fitted it looks good so far . But i had a long week and a busy day so decided to de-stress with a couple of beers so not really in the ideal frame of mind to take an in depth look at it. The engine is one of my favourites as it had many duties and was found all over the GWR . I have two Bachmann versions that were running really well but only one is now running ok the other is not . I have not investigated the reasons for this but i suspect it is the split chassis problem which has dogged this model type from the original Mainline models. I often look at some modellers on you tube and one Sams trains is for me quite interesting he has done of a review of one of these models . Far from being experienced enough to say how good this is i thought he did a good job. When i get some time i will put some pictures up of my engine . Jim

A very useful model I should hope for many GW/WR modellers, one of the less glamorous mixed traffic classes that proportionately did more to pay the bills than the ever popular express types.

Something I have seen reported on this model that surprised me, an owner accidentally 'regauged' the pony truck wheelset, because it has a split axle construction and this had some slack in it. Worth checking out, and if true and there is slack on yours adding a DIY packing washer and a dab of cyano to keep that wheeelset permanently correctly gauged.
Thanks for the heads up on the pony truck . As i have no layout at the moment i will not be able to check or run in . I do have my grandsons small trainset which is currently in the garage awaiting further work over Christmas i will get it set up and give this and the King Edward and the 61xx both Hornby a good look and run in
. his year has been quite nice for Loco's normally i might get one although the 43 has been on order for some time and was bought by me . Thanks .Jim

Hi The King has arrived that is King Edward V and very nice it is to. I look forward to running these engines . I know this is not a new release i think the first models were released a couple of years ago and this latest probably a few months ago . It was bought from Hattons and looks very detailed. I am now trying to buy loco's that are Dcc fitted but this one is Dcc ready so i will have to get a de-coder any recommendations ?Well so far i think that Hornby have done a good job we will see when i get a chance to run it as to how it performs .Jim

Goes in the tender so plenty of space - I would myself use a Lenz Standard, typically to found for £18
Likewise. I use the Lenz Standard in every model that has an intrinsically sweet running mechanism and no issue with internal volume to accommodate it. So far that's been all my Hornby of post 2000 design, though I have nothing smaller than the class 08, J15 and J50, so not really challenged for internal volume. They all glide about most satisfactorily.
Hi Thanks Lenz standard it will be sounds quite reasonably priced to.
QUOTE (PAPPA.B @ 30 Nov 2020, 20:13) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Lenz standard it will be sounds quite reasonably priced too.
It is, and for this reason you may find it unavailable at what is a busy time of year.

If so the Zimo MX600R, typically £20, is the next to go for. That extra £2 buys a whole lot more motor control adjustment, which you are not going to need on a current standard Hornby mechanism. So what you do when a Lenz Standard is available, is swap that in, and then you have the Zimo ready for when a less than stellar mechanism comes your way: it will cudgel quite respectable running performance out of things as dire as an Airfix tender drive or the first Triang motor bogies. (Won't do anything for the horrible noise output...)
And Rapido now: 0-6-0T time, Large Hunslet and 15xx, planned availability 2021 and 2022 respectively.
Rapido now have a website for their UK Models - https://rapidotrains.co.uk/

Hi Just received 2x Lenz standard +v2 from Wickness Models very prompt service . Now just need some track to run these new loco's on . Aside from that i have been looking at the virtual Warley with the various videos one being Peco with some interesting
new additions to their bullhead track hopefully by the time i get to building the new layout they will have the full range . Jim

Now seen a couple of owner comments that with some use separating loco from tender - and keep in mind models have only been in owner's hands for about three weeks - it becomes slack and can uncouple while running. Oh well, I have to modify most RTR loco to tender linkages other than Bachmann's, whose screw lockable slide engaging a drawbar properly located through the drag boxes is the clear benchmark in RTR OO.
