Good Morning Everyone. I ordered two Deltics with sound over 18 months ago from Accurascale Okay there has been delays for one reason or another to do with the Chinese. I am very patient. But what will happen now as it is my understanding these come from Southern Ireland. Will we have to stump up more money for them. Any idea

Babz, Eire is an EU member, so there should be no change for you. (I hope Accurascale have dealt with the effect of the UK's exit on their business in some sensible fashion, but have no idea what arrangements they have made.)

And yet more. KR Models first product, the EE GT3 prototype, is being delivered to those that put up the cash. Did anyone active on this site go for it?

Saw the German location in the sidebar and had always assumed you lived there! (I have my Pa's side of the family scattered all over North-Western Europe, and a good many more relatives yet further away, from both parents' families.)

The Accurascale website is in the UK and there is a UK office so regardless of where some of the Accurascale staff are located, I would expect UK deliveries to arrive in the UK direct from China - ie no change from last year.

I looked up the customs duty for model trains and found it is 0%. Additional charges for customs clearance handling are unavoidable

. That just leaves getting the VAT sorted correctly so as to avoid paying UK VAT on top of EU VAT.

I haven't 'experimented' yet to find out what happens on orders from the EU. I am waiting for the dust to settle on the changes at Dover etc. first, like a few months...

DWB Thank you for the Info i had no idea they had an office in the UK which makes sense. I have not ordered anything since December and managed 3 huge orders before the German VAT Went back up to 19%.I asked DHL through FB Messenger what there costs now for receiving Goods from the EU. They sent me a booklet to Download but It was for sending goods to the EU. Ha Ha you could not make it up. I have now written by email to there CEO UK. I will let you know.

The first of Hornby's Thompson A2/2 have appeared in customer's hands. Do we suppose that the Bachmann 94xx, Hornby A2/2, KR Models GT3 and Oxford N7 all arrived on the same ship?

Bachmann have announced a new tooling for the class 20/0 with BR green ones due Apr/May and BR blue and Railfreight red stripe May/June.
Also a tweaked Modified Hall (two BR lined green versions) due Apr/May improving on the incorrect 2015 offering that incorporated elements of an original Hall

Not wishing to hijack the thread, but as annoying and frustrating as it is, It seems the norm nowadays. Off topic, but to prove a point: we put in a claim in March last year against Budget Direct travel insurance. It took until a couple of weeks ago and a post on their facebook page to get a payout! All this because after numerous emails and phone calls their 'claims consultant wouldn't read what I'd read. Needless to say, we've reinsured our car and house with other insurers.

Some more evidence that the competitive threat is being acted on.

I only ever bought one of the original version, an all over green EE type 1, and really should have 2 to be in just proportion with the other diesels. With any luck the new production will 'spring' some of the first all over green versions free! (There's nothing much to complain of on these if you don't want lights, they run beautifully; just some small detail adjustments, and modification to the ends of the chassis casting to allow the NEM pockets proper clearance. That last problem is how I got my specimen, returned to the retailer for constantly derailing, got a good s/h price in return for feedback on how I resolved the problem.)

K4 not interesting enough so maybe a V4 or perhaps a Riddles 8MT 2-8-2 but my favourite would be more dramatic such as a 2-6-6-2 KK4 now that'll sell well!

Why would someone make a model of a class that never existed. A V4 might appear when / if 3403 is built but it would still mean there were half the number of K4s and with The Great Marquess preserved its a class many are familiar with.

KR Models are suggesting they may produce the Haydock Colliery Bellerophon 0-6-0WT which is well known through preservation on the Keighley & Worth Valley and owned by the Vintage Carriage Trust, it has travelled to many other preserved lines and abroad, and is currently on loan to the Foxfield Railway.

Which is the most lovely little machine, but presents many difficulties to the production of a reliable running loco which also well represents the prototype appearance. I had a lovely day on the K&WVR, riding down to Keighley and then struggling up to Oxenhope, several times; hats off to the loco crew who were always struggling for steam on the up runs.

And further relating to KR Models, their launch product the EE GT3 is now being delivered. Generally a positive reception from what I have read, looks like the subject, runs well; the noise fitted version makes gas turbine noises, which are pretty optimal for the tweeter that is all that can be fitted in an OO model.

What with this and the GW Brown-Boveri shrieking monster announced by Rails, if we ever do resume having model railway exhibitions, then perhaps a Sonic Assault Limitation Treaty on gas turbine sound effects could be negotiated? My going in position would be 'only between 6pm and 8am , Saturdays and Sundays excluded'.

First of Hornby's Thompson pacifics have arrived, in the form of the A2/2. The livery colour and lining coming in for significant criticism, Hornby's persistent problem with a 'chalky' rendering of BR's green; and now the lining - which is usually good from Hornby - with over emphasis of the black. Minor parts fallen off some. Happily, running appears to be good which is my top priority.

For my layout it's an A2/3 that's required, the most frequently seen Thompson pacific in the KX area. The mechanism is the piece I want working well. Colour and lining will be invisible under the filth so livery is of no great concern. Will also have to finagle a flanged Cartazzi truck wheelset into it, so much hacking inside the dummy frames in prospect when these turn up...

OK so I coughed up £171 and have ordered an A2/2 now awaiting delivery so interested to see how that'll turn out.

Heljan have an advert out and includes the L&B 2-4-2tank and this is priced at £239 - a bit optomistic is my view, after the 2-6-2t effort having issues then I'll not pay anything like that for one although Hattons price this at £203 but still too high for what is a simple model really and not with complicated valve gear although very nicely decorated, however mine are working locos not shelf decorators.

Meanwhile Locomotion models are offering a 94xx tank for £134.95

Rails advertise the new Bachmann V2 for £229.95 and a hefty £329.95 presumably with DCC and sound. It looks really good but over £200 starts to get serious money.

Rails also have an LNWR Precedent 2-4-0 at £220 DCC ready from Bachmann

from the same source a Caley 812 looks veery nice from £179 upwards

a Wainwright D class is also shown but not priced.

Model Rail Magazine has some new models that include a Vale of Rheidol 2-6-2t

this supplier also has J70's at £127.50

16xx pannier tanks at £149.00 a bit heavy for this one methinks

and USA tanks at £129.95

meanwhile KR models have produced the GT3 which looks a very nice job if this appeals to you the dcc ready version thought to come in at £195 which given the write up seems fair enough

The V2 at £229.95 is a Rails Exclusive version. The catalogued V2s are the same list price but immediately subject to being discounted by a number of suppliers by the 15% maximum initial discount permissible under Bachmann's trading terms which makes them as low as £195.45 and Rails are listing them at that. Personally I would order from a supplier also selling them post free but also giving something back - Kernow (provided you are already a customer with them and register) and Derails for example give a point per pound equating to 1p off another order so a V2 from either would get close to £2 off further order

Of the Doncaster traction I feel myself drawn to the V2 as top priority. After all there 184 of them, and they were 'everywhere'. And Bachmann are likely to render the BR green rather better too.

OO9 I take it? 'The trouble' is that this doesn't have the same collector support 'subsidy' as standard gauge OO, so what might now be the £100ish asking price for a small OO loco of comparable build complexity and quality, something like doubles because the investment has to be recovered over so much smaller a customer base. And then because they aren't purchased by collectors, the owners go and run the things, and some break...
